What I don't comprehend is how Hinesville can be so run down. Many other military towns have at least have made the effort to use all the money they rake in from military jobs, contracts, families, etc for example Fort Hood, Texas has made little strides to make it look less "ghetto." Hinesville is still stuck in the 70's and that is not a compliment.

HINESVILLE IS THE BIGGEST ANTI- MILITARY TOWN IN THE UNITED STATES. JUST LOOK WHEN YOU GO OUTSIDE THE MAIN GATE IT LOOKS LIKE A WAR ZONE OR LIKE A HURRICANE JUST WENT THROUGH. THE LEADERHIP DOESNT CARE HOW THE CITY LOOKS

1. Its not the leadership at Stewart that needs to fix our town, its the towns responsibility.

2. No hurricane or war zone has been here in over 20 years for a hurrcane, and the last time a war was here, our town did not exsist.

3. Prices on gas here are very competitive. I know, I manage fuel stations in Garden City, South Carolina, and a few other states.

3. Bussiness here in town has picked up, the rates they charge have picked up due to the economy not able to support itself.

Be sure to educate yourself before throwing a tantrum, and if you don't like our town of Hinesville, go back to where you came from, or better yet, run for office, and make some changes...

Justice, Just to let you know there is a bowling alley on post, there are also movie theaters off and on post, there are also parks. There is also the Holbrook Pond Park on Hwy. 144. You as a parent should be responsible for the entertainment of your children. It is not the responsibility of the city nearest the military installation. As a citizen of the community and a parent, and a civilian, I do not ask ANYONE other than myself and my spouse to provide entertainment for our children or ourselves. You need to take some responsibility and get creative with your children. And as far as the prices of EVERYTHING, well lets just say that if you can't afford the extra entertainment that IS available, stop doing them. This ENTIRE COUNTRY is in financial trouble, not just military personnell. It is not the absolute responsibility for the rest of America to take care of your finances and entertainment. We have our own difficulties. If it is so hard, get your behind out and get a J.O.B. Just because you are a militery wife does not make you special. It simply makes you a militery wife. That was your choice. Just as my choices are my own choices. Come on, I believe that the country owes it's military a huge thank you for their sacrafices and bravery, however they DO draw a salary each and every month that is pretty much guaranteed. The civilian population CANNOT say the same thing. We are losing more and more jobs everyday. And we have had to make our own personal sacrifices to make ends meet, just to pay our bills. Not to entertain ourselves. I see military people driving around in the brand new expensive cars. Buy a used car. It will save you on the monthly payment and on car insurance. Think outside the box when it comes to saving money. Get involved with the community that you live in and do some volunteering. It might just turn out to be better than doing the things that cost you $$. get outside and plant a garden with your children, go clean up a neighborhood park, find a youth group for your children to join, go th the YMCA. Take your kids fishing. Just stop whining about all the things that all the rest of face on a daily basis as well. The city of Hinesville supports the military tremendously!!!

For your information, the military came here and took peoples lands and homes and just displaced each and everyone of them. they had lived where the training grounds are for many generations!! We did not ask the military to come here!!! If you dislike it so much, go back to your home state and set up house there. We have not one time asked for all of you to be here. If it looks so bad to you, get out and do some volunteer work and get to cleaning. Just stop your whining. You all seem to think that we owe you our first born just because you chose the military life. Don't get me wrong, I support the military and I am very grateful to the bravery and sacrafices that each and every soldier had made for our country, however, the rest of the country contributes just as much to this nation. We just simply chose to do it in a civilian manner and not join the military. You CHOSE to do so, so PLEASE STOP YOUR WHINING!!!!!!!

First Justice is an idiot. As a veteran of three combat tours nothing about Hinesville looks like a war zone. If your to lazy to even know where to find places on Ft. Stewart I doubt you know any thing about Hinesville. So contrary to the military message of Ask, Care, and Escort I wish you would shoot yourself. I know that's mean but oh well.

Second I wish that the electric was lower that is about the only thing where I see costs being out of control.

Dear Whiners:
I came to this town by choice. I have worked here for several years and love the town. I like working in a town where I can make it anywhere in about 5 minutes. If you lived in a "big" town, you might complain about the traffic. Keep in mind that it is not feasable to build a tank firing range with 400 miles of trank trails next to the beach or Disney World. To those who say, "Why don't you just build this or that and open up a bowling alley or other such fun place/" I say who will pay the rent when you are deployed? I believe that a person can be happy if they choose to be. There are folks stationed near big cities and theme parks that are bored to death. Look for something to be happy about and you will find it. Fort Stewart is a very attractive base. There is a lot to do on post and most of it is FREE. There is an old saying; "You could be stuffing money in some folks pockets and it would either be too fast or too slow." What are you doing to make our community a better place?

Army wife? How long have you lived here? Is this the only place you have ever lived? The people here are very rude, and I have never felt so unwanted before in my life.

I've posted here previously when I first moved here back in 2010. I'm still here. Neighbors in the Belmore Subdivision in Hinesville are spiteful and bitter. We don't know each other, even with courtesy hello waves in the mornings, I still get evil glares. The other day, some neighbor called the authorities on me because I was burning mail in my backyard. Since moving here, the whole "Southern hospitality" is a myth because surely, I don't get it here. Still dislike this place and counting down the days til we get the hell out of this place.

I'm sorry you're so unhappy, I truly am. But I have noticed and I am a transplant myself here in south Georgia...but it isn't the people that were born and raised here that are rude and have no manners...it's all the transplants that are here.

You are right. Thank you for your feedback. Though we are in South Georgia, there is a collection of many transplants who aren't very hospitable. I'm not sure how come I haven't thought about it that way. May you have a great day.

Hello to everyone who has responded on this forum. I donot judge anyone who have complaints about what's going on in this town - everyone has the right to have an opinion, but I do agree that if you could, try to do something about it. I am a veteran and am married to an Active Duty Service member stationed here in Hinesville. After being here for half of one year, I realize there's really not much here to do. I've decided to do something about it. I would like to open an Indoor Amusement Park here in this town, and would like to know if this would be of interest to you. Below, is a link to my survey (will only take you two minutes to complete, very quick). Before investing into this business, I need to know if it would be worth it to do this. It will also provide job opportunities to Hinesville/Ft Stewart residents. Please let others know about the survey as well. Thank you for your time and consideration.

My husband is stationed there, I HATE IT! Yes there is lots to do on back. But once off base its so boring. The good things is, there are lotssss of beaches about an 1-1 1/2 away! Every other pay period for awhile we would go to the beach in the summer! I loved it. But if I was stuck in Hinesville, it would be mind numbingly boring lol!

I don't think this town is anti-military in anyway. I have lived here for 1.5 years and it's a decent town. We are military so we are stationed here, but we are not FORCED to live Hinesville. We could have chose one of the other surrounding towns, but we wanted something close to post. I think the thing that I find so different here (from my hometown and other cities we have lived)is the amount of racists in this town. And personally, I'm not talking about Caucasions not liking African-Americans. It is most certainly the other way around here. I have ran into a lot of African Americans that do not like white people and treat them with disrespect. I'm from up north and I didn't see that there. Of course you will always have a few "racists" EVERYWHERE (unfortunately). It's just hard to live somewhere and see so much hate because of the color of your skin. It is 2012, people!! Are people not talking about this issue in the thread because they are scared to or because they don't see it happening?? I'm just curious because I know some people who feel the same as I do.

Let's BRAC Ft. Stewart in the next round and move'em to Fort Gordon. We'd be happy to have you here. See how the residents of Hinesville like it when all the tax base and money leaves once BRAC is complete. Don't believe me, go up to Ft Gillem and Ft Mac in Atlanta.
