I think that you would have to be ignorant to say that Hinesville is ANTI-MILITARY town. Most of the population here are Military, Military Retirees, Veterans and their family members. The mayor of Hinesville is pro military, by the way he is a Retired LT COL OR COL. This is just like any other town. It is what you make of it. This is a great area to live in. If you hate Hinesville so much, go back to where you come from.

HINESVILLE IS THE BIGGEST ANTI- MILITARY TOWN IN THE UNITED STATES. JUST LOOK WHEN YOU GO OUTSIDE THE MAIN GATE IT LOOKS LIKE A WAR ZONE OR LIKE A HURRICANE JUST WENT THROUGH. THE LEADERHIP DOESNT CARE HOW THE CITY LOOKS. WHAT DO THE LEADERSHIP HAVE FOR THE SOLDIERS AND THEIR FAMILIES HERE? IS THAT NOTHING? ZERO, NADA, KAPUT? BY THE WAY , WHERES THE BOWLING ALLEY HERE OF POST SO WE CAN GO BOWLING? THE ONLY SOLDIERS TOWN IN THE WORLD WHERE THERE IS NO BOWLING ALLEY. ANYTHING FOR THE KIDS? LET ME SEE, OH I SEE, NOTHING. EVERYTHING IS ON POSTM BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE OF POST. I WISH I HAD MONEY , I WILL PUT A BOWLING ALLEY AND A KIDS AMUSEMENT PARK. YOU KNOW SOMETHING FOR THE PARENTS TO TAKE THEIR KIDS. HERE I DONT KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE. A LOT OF FOD PLACES, AND A LOT OF GAS STATIONS AND THAT IS. BUT TO DO QUALITY TIME WITH THE FAMILIES? ZERO, NADA, KAPUT. LEADERSHIP DOESNT EXIST HERE. IF YOU ARE A AND HAD BEING IN OTHER MILITARY BASES YOU KNOW WHAT IAM TALKING ABOUT. HERE NOTHING FOR THE SOLDIERS AND FAMILIES TO DO. and there is a lot of children here, but where you can go. savannah? with the gas prices? there are more than 100, thousand people here and with money. but no place to take your family and your kids. we need something for the kids here. i wish i had money i will put a bowling alley and a place for the parenst to take the kids and i will be rich in one year. but i dont have that kind of money. that is why the leadership here doesnt care about the people that live here. yes if you are into alcohol and going to the clubs you are good here. but not everybody have the same habits. others like to spend quality time with their families. and here this town doesnt care about us.
You specify the military, what about everyone else? Military are not the only persons experiencing the lack of what you mention. To me Hinesville's chamber of commerce is an in name only organization. There is no mall here which you don't mention, people take their money to Savannah if they can afford the gas & the couple of hrs trip there plus the loss of time in travel. Walmart seems to have some sort of deal with the chamber of commerce here as there is also no Kmart here which is now owned by Sears. You should express yourself in the local Hinesville news and ask the television news to do a story about it and to question the chamber.

We have been stationed here since 2001. We live off post and own our home. Hinesville, like most military towns, has its good and bad. Yes, there is a definitely lack of cultural or social activities offered in town. There is most definitely a lack of social activities for teenagers to take part in which no doubt leads to much of the teenage crime in town. But there are also many positive aspects to Hinesville. We live in a wonderful subdivision with the kindest neighbors in the world. All of the neighbors know each other and genuinely care about one another. Whenever we go away on vacation, we take comfort knowing that our neighbors will keep a close eye on our home. If I am caught in traffic and running late for my son to get off the bus, I don't panic because I know that he will go to any one of the neighbor's houses and they will keep an eye on him until I get here. It would absolutely be nice if we had more options for shopping other than Walmart. There was a Kmart here when we first got here but Walmart drove them out of business. My biggest concern/complaint with Hinesville is the education system, but that isn't exclusive to Hinesville. Georgia has a very poor education system statewide.

In regards to ArmyWife's comment about how people shouldn't assume that everyone has money problems because of poor management skills. I will give you that to assume that EVERYONE has problems because of poor management is foolish. However, in my experience as a ten year army wife, MOST military members do have money problems because of poor management skills...living beyond their means. I will give you an example, on the first deployment several years ago. As much as I missed my husband, the extra pay was a blessing because I used it to pay off all of our debt and put money in the bank to purchase our first home. While I was doing that, I sat and watched many of the wives in my husband's unit blowing through the money like they had hit the lottery....new furniture...new cars....vacations...you name it. These are the same wives/families that as soon as the deployment was over needed to go for an AER loan to buy groceries. Could the pay be better for military member....absolutely...especia lly considering that they put their lives on the line every day. But is the pay so bad that a family can't survie on it? Hell no! We have six children and for the last three years I have not worked because I have been in school. We manage to live just fine. Our kids never want for anything. We have never had any of our utilities shut off for nonpayment. We are able to go on a lovely vacation somewhere every year. And we are still able to enjoy an active social life with our children going to the movies and out to dinner. We own two cars and a motorcycle. And we do this all on one income!

As much as I am sure I will catch hell for saying this....the majority of soldiers my husband has to counsel are lower enlisted kids with wives and three and four babies. Now I am not going to begin to pretend that I have the right to tell anyone when they should or should not have kids. However, I was raised that if you can't feed'em, don't breed'em. These young families have no business having baby after baby and then complaining that the Army doesn't take care of them. It's not the Army's job to take the family. It's the soldier's job to take care of his family.

I grew up in Hinesville and have lived here for 40 years. I love the Army and the soldiers. I have bought meals in restaurants for soldiers and their families to show my thanks. The city and businesses have most always given thanks and discounts to soldiers.

I haven't seen the anti-military mindset reported in this thread. If I hear someone disrespect the military, I will strongly disagree vocally.

It's odd reading this. I lived in Hinesville as a soldier's wife than as a civilian. While married to the soldier the town kissed my behind. Once he died and I became just another civilian the town wouldn't do a darn thing for me. I left and have not been back. I am just here looking for some old friends actually.

there are pros &cons everywhere you are stationed--Fort Hood--first time I was called a yankie & not in a good way-Fort Stewart -people openly hate whites--Germany afraid a bomb might be placed in your car @ night--Fort Lewis --rain--the pros you meet new people--you learn about different cultures--been to disney world about 30 times seen some wonderful free concerts, been to Pais,England,Italy & even went to East Germany when it was communist--went through checkpoint charley with submachine guns pointed @ us..Yes no post is perfect but it is up to you as military to make life better--look around & make the best & if you think you can make things better work on doing things to help the community God bless all our troops

THEY LOVE ARMY PEOPLE CASH MONEY AND THEY WILL GET IT ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. ONCE THEY SEE YOUR ARMY STICKER ON YOUR CAR THEY GO AFTER YOU. SO THE TOWN PUNISH YOU FOR BEING A GREAT AMERICAN HERO. YOU KNOW WHAT IS SAD? THIS IS THE YEAR 2009 AND THEY STILL HAVE THE MENTALITY OF THE 1970S. MY PERSONAL OPINION? THEY SHOULD CLOSE FORT STEWART. AND LETS SEE WHO THEY ARE GOING TO GO AFTER. THIS TOWN SHOULD HONOR AND RESPECT THE SOLDIERS INSTEAD THEY HATE THE SOLDIERS AND NOT ONLY THE SOLDIERS THEY HATE THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS. HOW THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT? BECAUSE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DOESNT KNOW IT.THE USA DOESNT KNOW HOW BAD THIS TOWN HURTS THE SOLDIERS. I DONT UNDERSTAND.

Hinesville doesn't care about soldiers. I live there for ten year because I had no choice. In fact, Hinesville is like a big ghetto. Gangs, drugs, and all the other that comes with it. I feel sorry if you live in Hinesville. This is not a hate post but a reality posting.

Hinesville revolves around the military. Everything is for them--it is really a virtual community in every other sense. In fact, it is nice to stay out of it, since there is nothing for you if you are not in some way connected to the army.

You sound like it is everyones job to make someone happy. Life is what you put into it. The only right you have is to die and pay taxes. Get out into the community and you will find things to do.
