Wildfires force evacuations in Hinesville

Are they working to "put it out" or just trying to keep the houses from burning up.
Residents in the vicinity of the fire (includes thousands of people) are suffering from long term exposure to smoke generated by the fire. The small Huey dropping thimbles of water on the fire from the air have done nothing except lower the level of our pond (already 4' below normal levels). I do not think our pond turtles are trained to fight fires....
When are public health officials going to notify residents of the dangers resulting from long-term exposure and which populations are the most likely to suffer the most? Long term exposure will cause even the healthiest of individuals to develop chronic illnesses or worse.
