I'm watching the ball game on TV. Ever since he got convicted of vote-buying, Randy Thompson has been on TV every night -- "I'm Knott County Judge Randy Thompson" -- talking about the Sportsplex or the Mountain BB Classic. What he's really doing, of course, is campaigning, but the trial's over. He can't tamper with an juries now. So -- when's he going to prison? Why ain't he in prison? Why is he still judge? And, more than that, why are our magistrates still spending our tax money to advertise his mug on TV? Who does he think he is? Donnie Newsome?

Satisfied blacktop customer i think not. We got out black top when donnie newsome was in there lolz. Besides i dont even vote (to young).. I just think it's pretty pathetic to get on a website and rag on someone when they've done a great deal for the county. Other judges might have paved the foundation for many things Randy has made happen in his time, but he still was the one to see to it that they got done. If you dont like Randy vote against him, don't get on here and whine about it.

i recieved no black top,but i'm glad what he has done for the kids of knott co. not everyone has to get personal gain to be satisfied with someone, just seeing the kids off the streets, with a place to go for fun is enough for me.sure, some of the things, i don't like. but tell me,mountianfox,do everyone you know like you. we all have flaws and traits that are not pleasing to everyone.you could live at the foot of the cross and someone would still be displeased with you.i don't think he could have given everyone that voted for him blacktop.i don't think we had enough.but maybe he did give something else. who knows.i know i got nothing, and proud that i didn't.so i can hold my head high and say i voted for him and i AM NOT a crook.

I thought Randy could not run for another office? Did I miss something that is going to allow him to do that?

As I posted in another thread somewhere else, you can follow the appeals process here:

http://www.ca6.uscourts.gov/daysheet/daysheet...

Right click on Eastern Kentucky under Pending Cases.

Randy or anyone else is free to run for office as long as he is still in the appeals process even though he was convicted in a lower court. That's just the way Kentucky law is. If he loses in the Appellate Court then he will have to resign his office. The appeals process could take from 6 months to 5 years.

thanks kungfu, i did know he could run and serve as long as it was on appeals.i was just wondering if the talk at the liquior store was correct.that he got off. i hope,i don't know, it just hurt, when you hear he's free, but his ppl have to and are serving time.and he's free to do whatever he chooses. if he is guilty, and i hope not,he will eventually get his. i hope for marsha and the kids sake,he is innocent. but seeing the way he act, nothing would surprise me anymore.i think he cheated a lot of ppl out of water also, especially the ppl up pine-top,(where most of mike halls family live),and the ppl going towards letcher county.i think, red fox, maybe.he says he has nothing to do with this, but god help me, i think he's lying thru his teeth.but they will keep on doing what they have done for water all their lives, drilling wells, and minding their business.

Thanks. I'll look it up. Meanwhile, this means that, like ol' Donnie, ol' Randy could hold office while in prison if his federal case is still under appeal, right? And, like Donnie, he'd be paid like he was the honest officeholder we all hoped he would be? That being the case, I'm certain all Knott Countians, meantime, join me in being proud to pay for having a convicted felon as our self-appointed TV spokesman. It's gettin' kinda old, though, don't you think?

I'm with Geeze. I didn't get any blacktop, no money or anything else that was given away, but the way I see it, he helped a lot of people, moreso than any of the other, so called judges and I will go vote for him. Wasn't planning to vote, but if he is on the ballet, I will. No Man is perfect. What he done, he done for the people. Sorry, you feel the way you do, but look at the Good in a Person , not the Bad. If he done wrong, he won't do it again. And all will pay for the wrong at one time or the other. Just calm down and vote him out if you can. Go Ran Go!

Why is Knott county the laughing stock of the state. Why don't we have good water and sewer. Why don't we have decent shopping centers. Why don't we have decent clinics and a hospital like all of counties have. Why do we only have one company controlling cell service, tv service, phone service and Internet service. Why don't we have restaurants like other counties. Why don't we have services like SVT Sandy Valley Transportation for our seniors. WHY WHY BECAUSE KNOTT COUNTY VOTES ONLY ONE WAY. DEMOCRATIC. YOU HAVE TO MIX THINGS UP A BIT TO HAVE PROGRESS. INSTEAD OF ELECTING OFFICIALS THAT STEAL EVERYTHING DON'T YOU THINK ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE. I can see Knott county twenty years from now, just the same stinking democratic wasteland it is today. Jacko was right in telling you what you stand for. He didn't scratch the surface. You outstanding Knott citizens that sell your votes are getting what you deserve in this county, nothing.

Kwan Fu tell us three things that former elected democrats in Knott
county did for the community. That does not include vote buying and graveling driveways. WAITING. Don't wonder off the subject just name three things in the last 126 years. Welfare don't count either.
