They Do A Good Job, they work hard and get there when you need them.
i have respect for them seeing as how hard they work and how many hours they put in.

they have a bad tendency to argue with the families about going to hazard. they want to take them there no matter what the family requests. We prefer Martin and refuse Hazard...they want to argue with us that it isn't our decision. screw that noise.

We don't go to hazard because my Grandmother is afraid of most of their staff. Not everything around here has to do with drugs.

Why would she be afraid of the staff. That's just BS. I would be more afraid of the staff at Martin that as NO Clue how to treat people and ALWAYS sends them to Lex or WV!!

Well, I had to call for an ambulance a couple weeks ago due to my heart condition. I have had open heart and live daily with a pace maker/defibrillator.The guys that came to get me were from Floyd County and DID NOT want to take me to Hazard where my heart drs. were. Actuall the one who rode in the back with me was rude as hell with me and I don't think they should treat people like that.. If they don't like their job, go to the house and give it to someone else. I let it kinda go over my head but, I wondered how many old people they treat like that.. I know they get tired and maybe that cause them to act that way, but when u r sick u don't feel like hearing their crap either.. I hope if I ever have to call for another ambulance, they send me some Knott County people that at least will treat me like someboday. This man was a real prick, the driver never said a word, but u could tell he didn't like the way his passenger was acting with me.I see now why so many people refuse to go to the hospital, I serious thought about it. If it wasn't for me having some problems with my heart, I would have stayed home until I could manage to get there myself. I think he got pissed cause he wanted to take me Martin or somewhere in Floyd Co. cause thats where they r from.. well, too bad, I wasn't friggin going!

I can honestly say that prior to my parents deaths, we never had that problem with Knott or Floyd County crews. Hard to figure out who the guy was teching the back of the ambulance because they were all really nice back then. Maybe he was having a bad day or something and didn't intend to be rude. Not trying to take sides or anything but, some of these people work some long hours and are very exhausted toward the end of their shifts.

It's good "ohwell" that they were good to your parents. And maybe he was just having a bad day, but at the time I was too... I was sick and also scared because of my heart condition. But I do remember those long hours too, I worked 18 yrs until I got sick and had to quit. So I do understand long hours and also dealing with the public too... It's just at the time I was sick and thought he should have been a little more nicer. I hope if I need their services again, I don't get someone who acts like a smartie.
Are you a paramedic

These are trained professionals.. are you? Why should you question their decision? Do you really think you know more about their job than they do? I very seriously doubt it!!! Besides that by law it is their decision to make not yours! They are legally liable for what they do and you are not so of course they are going to argue and you should listen to them. There is probably a really good reason they do the things you don't understand... and the reason you don't understand is because you obviously know nothing about EMS... so let the people who do know EMS do their job and respect that they might actually have the patients best interest in mind and they actually know what they are doing!

Ya know... I don't understand.. if you need an ambulance then shouldn't that mean there is something serious goin on? If its not anything serious then why call 911? EMS is NOT a taxi service!!! We go to school for the same amount of time as nurses do and do about 2 or 3 times as much hands on training as RN's, and we do our job without a doctor telling us every little thing to do, we make all of the decisions about patient care, and we do it in a poorly lit moving vehicle on some of the worst roads in the USA! Patient care is what we do.. not give people a ride to the hospital of THEIR choice. We are professionals and it is an insult to us when we are told by people who have no medical training at all how to do our job. Besides that you probably live closer to Martin than Hazard and if you are having heart problems you need to go to the closest facility where you can have a team of people taking care of you instead of one person. The paramedic in question probably was rude to you and thats NOT ok.. but he was probably just trying to do his job. I know a lot of the people at Trans Star and a lot of them have 10-15 or even 20 plus years of experience to go along with all of the education they initially received in school.. so if you want to say he was acting like a "SMARTIE" that's ok.. he's probably way more intelligent than you would ever imagine.

actually, the most appropriate facility for a patient having a MI would be the facility that has interventional cardiac catherization. Just saying!

Actually the patient needs to be taken to the closest hospital to be diagnosed to make sure they're having an MI and to receive Fibrinolytics or other medicines, that EMS doesn't carry, and THEN transferred to a facility that has interventional cardiac catherisation. I know you're from TN, but around here the local facilities don't have these capabilities, its a 1-2 hr transport to a hospital that does have interventional cardiac catherisation, so we have to take them to the nearest facility for lab work and diagnosis.
