Less than a $1 a day! What a deal for the waste and gravel companies! Then they just burn off the gas and waste it! Great!! I want to move there!

It's so sad to hear that the signature smell on the Eisenhower Expressway is going away. I hope that Yankee Candle puts out a "Hillside Landfill" scented candle that will allow those like me who will be longing for the smell to be back to re-experience the pleasure once again. I hope that the Holiday Inn/Best Western buys up many of these candles and installs them in each room as well as the lobby, restaurant, and meeting rooms.

Finally, I hope that those who received the outrageous and exhorbitant $438 payments will donate them back to the waste company to allow them to build more landfills in other neighborhoods along expressways that frequently back up.

Wow 438 dollars for the residents breathing in a nasty and probably hazardous to their health smell. What a deal, for the slum garbage lords, that is.

I suppose the people of Hillside don't create any garbage that contributes to the necessity of having a landfill.

Didn't the people know the landfill was there when they moved there? They shouldn't get anything.

Let me guess, these people snapped up the cheap property around the landfill and are still complaining about the smell. Easy solution...step up to a $450k 2bd/2ba city condo or take your $438 check and shut your pie hole.

I have had to drive by this smelly hole every day for the last 5 years (on 290). I gagged every time I drove by there. They should send me a check, too.

If these guys get $438 for living next to a stinking landfill, imagine how much Blago's neighbors will get.

Romeoville, huh? I wondered where Mayor Dailey moved his CHA problems. I know he got rid of thousands of them out of Chicago.

That was the grand plan, get rid of high rise public housing and scatter section 8 all over the suburbs. Enjoy the plunge in your property values living next to someone who is living there for free.

Like Alaz said, Hillside residents should not be getting anything! Unless MAYBE if they lived there prior to 1981, when the landfill was built. It doesn't take a genious to know that it stinks.

When we moved here in 1994, it didn't smell like that. Somedays depending on the wind you could smell it, but it wasn't till about 2 years ago that this horrendous indescribable odor started and it's because the landfill company didn't keep up the place and went BANKRUPT. They got sued and another company stepped in to clean up the mess. We were assured the odors were "harmless" and would be taken care of quickly. When you have 5 kids on one income in an affordable larger home, you can't just pick up and move everything in a down market. They said the smell would be taken care of...it still smells. We've had no choice but to endure it financially, so I say after a settlement,$438 is nothing..how bout a little sensitivity.

I always thought it was the hookers on Wolf and Roosevelt that smelled when they opened their legs.
