An Open Letter To Bellwood Residents From Mayor Frank A. Pasquale
August 17, 2012
As you may know, Bellwood was in the news this week with coverage of the long-awaited indictment of Roy McCampbell, the village's former finance manager who I inherited when I became mayor in 2001. I want to thank Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez for such a thorough and professional effort in following up on the evidence we presented after our internal investigation. The indictment against Mr. McCampbell is the culmination of my commitment to seek justice on behalf of our residents, who deserve nothing less. This action is a victory for our residents.
The issues I uncovered with Mr. McCampbell’s salary and benefits were not a factor in the challenges the village began to face in 2008 as we worked to implement our viable economic development plan. Like the rest of the nation, our plans to reposition Bellwood as a great place to do business were impacted by the start of the economic downturn. However, today Bellwood is on solid financial ground, operating smoothly and introducing new projects and facilities for residents. Bellwood has not been significantly impacted by Mr. McCampbell's actions because of our swift and decisive steps. Over the past two years, we have implemented projects and improvements that continue to benefit residents, including balancing the village's last two budgets.
I took an oath to protect the residents of Bellwood and that is exactly what the Board of Trustees and I have done in this important matter. On behalf of our residents, I look forward to our day in court for this criminal case and for the civil lawsuit the village filed against Mr. McCampbell in 2011.
It is important for me to communicate directly with you to make sure you get the facts. We have always provided information, answered your questions, and requested your input and participation. The Board of Trustees, department heads and I are available at village board and commission meetings. We communicate through the village's website ( www.vil.bellwood.il.us
), in our monthly Update newsletter, by phone, fax and e-mail, and on local cable channel. If there is something you want to know about what's going on in town, continue to feel free to ask.
Mayor Frank A. Pasquale
