Among the most ambitious plans is in Chicago Ridge, where officials hope to redevelop the vacant, 65-acre YRC truck terminal and an adjacent 35 acres. Called Ridge Creek Centre, preliminary designs include an outdoor music theater, multi-story hotels, offices and restaurants.

The property is still owned by YRC, the parent company of Yellow Freight, and no developers have yet committed to make Ridge Creek a reality.

“Anything could go there,” Mayor Chuck Tokar said.“It’s full of potential.”

I remember going to Poplar Creek. It closed becaus it didn't make money without competition and now with Northerly Island, the concert venue over at the Pullman site, Lollapallozal, the Toyota Stadium and Tweeter (whatever) to compete with Chuck thinks a music venue can make money (or even be the highest and best use of the land? So we would have our own version of a concert venue because of his own arrested development? Booking bands must be lucrative. Why can't you even locate another Dry Cleaners to locate in the Ridge. Does anybody still think Chuck isn't skimming off of Ridgefest? He wants to be a music promoter. He should. He doesn't need to be mayor then.

The Chicago Ridge Mayor and Trustees has provided an example of the arrogance of this area’s political establishment that infuriates so many of us. Hypocrisy compounds the outrageous nature of this act of political grandstanding. Can you see the signs now?“Welcome to the home of the Tokar Music Pavilion in Chicago Ridge where people count (sort of)". In blatant disregard of what the region needs.

The easiest way to disagree is to assume that the other person is a dolt, a loon, a misguided zealot who refuses to see the truth. Their selfish desire to win interferes with their understanding of reality.

I have a relative at Yellow freight who has been a manager there for 20 plus years. The whole reason the company moved to chicago heights was bc they were getting hammered on taxes. Now they are trying to move back to the ridge and its been nothing but problems. I guess the Ridge would rather have abandoned buildings and treasures like the Wal-Mart than decent businesses.

Before someone jumps down my throat, I realize that Wal-Mart is not in the ridge but the mall is not much better

If you would check Yellow Freight doesn't produce any sales taxes to the Ridge, only property tax. So why not get businesses in there that would produce sales taxes to the Ridge.

The location has been empty for a decade since Yellow left. Ten years of property taxes versus nothing. Also, in order to use the land for something other than freight it has to be completely torn down and cleaned before anything else can be built there. So what? Maybe ten more years before something actually happens if we are lucky?(Which it won't) In the meantime an eyesore that is bringing in no tax revenue.
