So exactly which laws are they supposed to enforce? Just those that you think apply? What about the ones your neighbor doesn't like?

You are all lost in the ozone. Laws are there for a reason. Like them or not, they must be obeyed until such a time as enough people do their part to get them removed from the books.

If you are going to do something stupid and illegal, you cannot whine when you get busted.

No one is denying that the behavior is illegal. What people, county and city, are complaining about is priorities. So let me break this down as simple as I can.

Is it the college party scene that is dragging down the city's business base, tax base, and general quality of life OR is it the drug dealing of herione and crack, prostitution, and other violent crimes that is responsible for the downward spiral of the quality of life in York?

NO ONE HAS SAID THE COPS SHOULD IGNORE ANY LAW. Only that they seem to have their priorities scewed. I have seen more articles about breaking up college drinking parties that in regard to investigating murders, robberies, and other violent crime. Seems to me, as an outsider, that York City Police are putting their limited resources in the wrong areas.

That's the problem Cops don't enforce the law they just enforce the ones they think will make the city the most money. They have a entire force devoted to Jackson street. They love to sit outside bars and wait for you to step outside and stumble just the slightest bit so they can arrest you for public drunkeness while you were trying to do the smart thing by walking home instead of driving. These cops are jokes.

And if the college students are not smart enough to make sure they are not easy targets then they will continue to get busted. For being in college, they sure are not that smart. If you stick your finger in a light socket once and get zapped, do you do it again? This is basically what these people are doing.
If they would learn some tact and how to party without waking the entire neighborhood, the neighbors would not complain and the cops would go away.

Spoken truly like someone born and raised in Dover. I guess my explanation was not simple enough or was the person who stated they have an entire detail dedicated to Jackson Street. Maybe they should have an entire detail dedicated to Princess St. or South St. or Maple St. or Salem Ave. or other areas of the city where violent crime is happening. Stay up in Dover citizen you are being bent over enough by Northern Regional.

I am not a York City resident. However if I was I would be at every city council meeting demanding to know why college kids drinking and walking are more important than violence and death and drug deals and guns.

yo citizen.. listen u old jackass, we are college students for a reason to go to school and get an education... with college comes parties... were u ever young???... obviously not... then you would see things our way... if we are not harming anyone... lets us be, every other damn college gets to do it except for the ones in PA... you voiced your opinion on this blog and i feel its the wrong opinion because you are probably an elder person... im pretty sure your the type to call the cops if a college kid is throwing a party... obviously these damn cops have their priorities in the wrong order, they wait for the call and raid houses like its a freaking drug bust or someone is being killed, they are ridiculous, every time i see a middletown cop, they look at us as if they could do anything as they please...

Lofty Goals,
I was born and raised in York City on West Jackson St. thank you very much. I have seen my old home go from a quiet community with close knit neighbors to the scum area full of drunken morons it is today so don't give me any crap. You are such a hypocrite to post as you are and you don't even live in the city. The addresses listed are just the location of the ISP not the computer. Learn a little about this forum before you make yourself look even more stupid.

PA COps,
You are truly a moron. I have no problem with anyone having fun but I also expect people to have a little common courtesy for those around them. Just because you are in college does not give you a license to be a jacka$$. If you and your compadres would simply learn some self control and common sense the cops would not hassle you. Those getting busted now truly deserve it because they know the cops are cracking down on the area and they (the college kids)are too dumb to change so they will continue to get busted.

Citizen,
Glad you moved. If you live across from an arena you should expect concerts and sporting events to be going on in the vening creating noise and fireworks. If you live next to a college or university you should expect students raising hell. So if you don't like your neighborhood then move. It is not like York City is anything to hold in high regard. Like myself I grew up in York Suburban now as an adult reside in York Suburban. If York Suburban turned into a toilet I would move. I used to work in York City and visited many neighborhoods as part of my job. So just in that little time I realized I would never live there. You say you used to live in York City but you never stated where you live. One could assume that not many people are getting their IP address from Dover unless they live in Dover. Sorry for not being an IP expert, but if that is all you got to insult me about I can imagine you are not all that whitty or bright.

I don't understand why this is so difficult. When I was in college we had a street called franternity/sorrity row. All the parties were in one isolated block away from regular town residents.

first off, the story doesn't say why cops showed up in the first place. If people were complaining about to much noise then, the cops are DOING THE JOB the county pays them to do. They just can't igore their responiblities and pretend underage drinkers weren't their. Believe me, their would be more outrage if the cops left and an underage drinker dies of keystone light poisoning. If the cops, on their own are staking out the campus looking for underage drinking, then yes I agree someone has got to get their priorities in place. Drugs and gang banging should be what stakeouts are for. And some of you people need to stop disrespecting the cops, when you speak of shooting cops your just as big of an a$$ as you think the cops are. They are people just like you and me trying to get through their day.

So you blame the college kids for your neighborhood going to the crapper? Not the 45 different gangs in the city? Nor the drugs, murders, rapes? That makes sense. Did you hear about the numerous college kids getting attacked in that area? Most of them weren't drunk, just walking by themselves thinking it MAY be safe. But you rarely hear about that in the news. No one cares about the college kids unless they're giving money to this hellhole of a county because God knows that's what it needs.
