Sounds like a qualified candidate to take the position and a good start in finding someone to take the place of the sheriff, that has failed the community so greatly. I would hope that other VERY QUALIFIED AND PROVEN candidates, come forward, and offer town hall types of appearances, so the community as a whole can make the best decision on who they feel will best serve the community and bring back TRUST and PROFESSIONALISM to the department. As stated, EQUAL JUSTICE FOR ALL, must be THE goal along with HONESTY AND FAIR PLAY. Equally important at this point in time, is to UPGRADE the D.A.'s OFFICE, in order to bring true CHANGE, and a high quality of JUSTICE to all the citizens of the community. It might be wise, for local activist for a better justice system, to advertise around the state for QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR BOTH OFFICES

You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear... you can't make good law enforcement with a department running at half staff. Before ANYONE criticizes LCSO they should look at the board of supes and ask them why they fail to bring local law enforcement pay and benifits to modren standards. A new sheriff may start out fresh, but he/she will quickly realize why the people who work for him are demoralized.

R-B you are supposed to be a NEWS paper - the SO has been wearing black for many, many years. I know, can't let the facts get in the way of a snappy headline.

The people that ask to serve, know the pay and benefits before hand. So its lame to use that as a excuse for discontent. If the troops are demoralized that's Mitchell's doing. You get rid of bad leadership, Not the troops. Person walking away from the jail,Garzoli affair and the Dinius case. Do need more?

I believe Sheriff Mitchell has done an outstanding job for many years. Prior to him taking his post as Sheriff, the department was stuck in the old days. The department had limited resources and did the minimum to get by.

Sheriff Mitchell had a vision for the department. That vision was community service. Sheriff Mitchell initiated programs that began to bridge the sheriff's department with the community. All the programs can be seen at http://www.lakesheriff.com .

Sheriff Mitchell and his command staff worked hard to earn the public's trust, and won with raving revue. The sheriff took the stance that his deputies need to be in partnership with the community.

Being a sheriff is a very political job. There are many issue's I'm sure he would like changed. Money would be the biggest issue. The Board of Supervisors sets the amount of money that the department get's per year. This is quickly used for state and federal requirements. Any additional monies used have to be pitched by grants.

Writing grants are often difficult. When it comes down to it, you have to work with what you have. The Lake County Board of Supervisors treat the department like dirt, and shows little support. A deputy who is at top step pay can start asking themselves why am I here. The deputy could go to another county and make twice the amount with less crime. The pay is better, the benefits are better, the public treats them better.

Sheriff Mitchell has done an outstanding job for what he has been handed for years. Please remember that Sheriff Mitchell has the experience to do that job. I'm sure Rivero is a nice guy.

Rivero has almost been a deputy for 2 years. In two years time you are just getting an idea of the needs of lake county.

I would only vote for a person for this post who almost has the same experience as Mitchell. I do not want to see Rivero run the department into the ground.

This will be a two fer DA and SO.

It will not take much to run against the two.

Just keep positive and remind folks why it stinks here at the Lake. No competition, and fiefdoms run by less than capable blow hards.

This will be easier than a Supervisor race as it is easy to get folks riled up over these two.

When you get thrown under the bus does it affect your position or your career? Or do you get disgusted enough to become a whistle blower? When the "stuff" starts, Is it better to be first? Or to wait until there is no one to support you?

My concern is you have a deputy (Rivero) who has some excellent street experience. His San Francisco days has brought him a lifetime of experience in comparison to the crime in Lake County.

I know Rivero has business experience, but running a funeral business is a lot different from running a sheriff's department. Rivero would have been smart to spend a few more years as a deputy and then promote to sergeant.

In other counties the under sheriff is the person who usually takes over the helm after the sheriff retires or leaves office. The under sheriff has the experience to do the job.

If Mitchell gets voted out of office, he will go straight back to sergeant where he last held his old position. We need experience in that position!

Don Anderson has my vote for DA, hands down!!

I'm still waiting to hear who else is running for Sheriff. I know many of you just want change and feel that anyone is better that Mitchell but I'm not there yet. Rivero doesn't have the experience, tends to complain/whine and is a little too arrogant.
