That's when you take insurance money and buy better things and/or get the hell out of Ohio. If you don't like it here then leave. Loser

Seems like we have two fire departments within one block now. If your place burns down now in Hillsboro it wouldnt made it before.

As for the mayor, Im not willing to pay more taxes and I doubt most folks are. The city, state, school and local taxes are killing us tax payers. These guys have golden health care and retirement but want more. To be honest Im surprised its taken this long. Dont be surprised if it gets worse.

I have a brilliant idea!! instead of paying a lot of money for the city to "patch" the pot holes that doesn't even last a week, they should just buy a case of bright orange spray paint and paint cirlces around all of the pot holes and change our city signs to HOLESBORO... money saved and everyone would know where the pot holes are. LOL

The roads are terrible. Try and live out of the city district where you have trustees that take their funds and buy personal farm eqipment and let our roads stay ice covered and torn up. If you want to vote them out.. out of luck, the only people that run for trustee in my area are all family.

The mayor needs to go back to Sunset Blvd and protitute his ideas with the rest of the tranny's. His idea for tax dollars used to restore/bring the arts to Hillsboro is a waste. I rather see tax dollars used to restore the country life back to Hillsboro where all your main shopping is in the center of town. The highschool doesn't even have a proper track or football field! I know the school has their own funds, but wouldn't it be nice for a Mayor to promote such a project instead of the old theatre building? His priorities are in the wrong places!

Blacktop: It's the Walmart effect, once one moves into a town it kills small business. The Mayor has big dreams, but he fighting the Walmart monster he can not defeat. The communities that resemble what he wants to make this uptown look like do not have Walmarts. Look at Waynesville, Sugar Creek, Augusta...these nice uptown areas are that way because they do not have to compete with Walmart. Only way Hastings will accomplish is goal for uptown will be to drive corporates out, but that drives out jobs also.

True about Wal-Mart, except the jobs part. More jobs are lost by the removal of the small businesses than a Wal-Mart store hires. The dignity os a Walmart employee is less than they once had working for the small business. Mayor does have a role in changing that. By improving the center of town and get the county to give incentives to small businesses to open shop like Walmart is still getting from the county. It is sad when Harry Sauner is in better condition and more presentable than the center of town where main roads connect.

He is making budget cuts, but where is that savings going to? all I hear from him is the arts in Hillsboro... not an answer I wanted to hear.

Blacktop, gotta disagree on the jobs part, I bet Walmart employees more people than all the businesses within a one block area of the uptown combined. The only way the uptown area draws business from Walmart is by offering something consumers want, at a reasonable price, with good customer service. Banks, restauarants that close at 2 p.m., tattoo parlors, government and law offices, and beauty salons/barber shops are about all the uptown offers...no real reason to shop there beyond 24 Exchange. Personally, the only uptown business I patronize is Dominos...other than that I avoid every business that may belong to HUBA because they are a drain on resources but offering little.

I think Hastings is doing a fine job cleaning up the town and setting it straight. Along with the fire department issue. And if your house burns down with 2 departments n town, then you did it on purpose.

I used to live on W. North St. And the alley in front of my house had a horrible pothole that was patched with that black gunk 13 times in 3 years.. would've saved money to actually patch it with real blacktop.

I stopped shopping uptown. I really don't need anything that is sold there. I usually go to Eastgate. Not impressed with the merchandise or the merchants. Plus, the parking sucks. I had to go to the administration building to pay my taxes and I had to drive around the block 4 times before I finally got a parking place in the front of the courthouse. Everything was full. They told me that there was a trial ongoing. I understand that. But, I also saw several of the courthouse employees going out and moving their cars around. They don't want to use the parking lot where they have to pay.
