Just read this on CNN. Spent 20+ years in the Marines to defend the rights we have. I find it appalling the excuses that I read in the comments for this article. The one that really caught my eye was "The law states". You made the laws you can work to change them. I have found these laws are what happens when cowards create a protective shell based on what someone might do rather than look at the rights of all concerned. I am not religous at all. I have been in numerous situations where I stood quiet and reverent while someone prayed or openly displayed their belief. Never was I embarrased or offended...It is their right in this country. What offends me is someone that makes an issue out of something as simple as reading a passage from a book they believe in. If the message is not for you get another message from it. THEY HAVE THE RIGHT IN THIS COUNTRY. I guess the true meaning of Christmas is really, Where are the best bargains this year?? Next time you go to your place of worship ask yourself if you have the right to say someone else is wrong. Richmond Hill, Ga.

Take Christ out of Christmas and what do you have? PC will be one of the downfalls of our Great Country. Glad to hear that the town Chamber of Commerce have reversed this decision and the reading has been allowed. Stick up for your rights people of Hillsboro.

Hello Walt. I can whole heartedly agree with you.

My kin from 3 generations fought for this country to uphold the TRUE beliefs of having the right to speak and assemble as afforded by our own constitution.

I am older now, our kids have grown and Christmas just isn't as much fun to us anymore, and I've got to say that news like this makes it even more a stick in the craw. It's interesting that these people who want to wish EVERYONE an inoffensive Christmas should go out of their ways to offend.

It feels to me like the country is disintegrating right under us. And I'm thinking--huh; fought for what?? And I'm wondering; just how long are we going to put up with this.

As for you people who don't want to allow a simple scripture to be read during Christmas, SHAME on you--hypocrites, liars. In the name of not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings with regards to faith, do you handle it the RIGHT way and demonstrate to the world as we have for decades that we are a country that is free, where ALL may feel free to express their faiths.

If EVER there is an exception to that, we are lying. We are HYPOCRITES. For that action alone, if I were in New Hampshire, I would BOYCOTT your so called celebration and encourage my friends and relatives to do the same.

This is NOT tolerance, this is NOT equal. THIS is pandering.

Just as a side I find it most interesting that a
SOLDIER whom you would say is a warmonger, is more peaceful than you are in this case. What hypocrites!

By the way; concerning these WHINERS who have a problem with " getting religion involved with it" need to do two things:

a. Realize THEY are not the only people in the universe.
b. Realize and respect the fact that we have laws regarding freedom of assembly and speach
c. Realize that they don't have to attend THAT particular session if they are SOOO offended.

Would you all like some cheese with that whine?!
