"They are unclear about WHY HE RAN" ?

Just a guess here...but I'd say that he ran because he didn't want to go to jail.

So what happens to the Jackpot money he won?
Does it go to his estate, or did the Casino or State of IL keep it?

Gene was my nephew. Sure he had some problems but my question is how exactly did he end up in M. River. I read he wasn't shot. He knew how to swim. Our family was told he drowned. So was he unconsious if so by who? I love you Gene!

Good, glad this sh-it head died, now we don't have to pay for him to live off us in prison. By the way, guess the casino gets to keep the cash.

Myhometown, it doesn't matter if he was a good swimmer, The water is running high in the Big River and the water temp was probably in the upper 40's to mid 50's. You can survive about 5-10 minutes in that kind of temp. Bottom line is that the idiot should not have ran from the cops and damn sure shouldn't have shot at them. Whay are you looking for someone else to blame for his death???? HE caused his own death- PERIOD.

Maybe he drowned in a deeper part of the River, but where they were showing on the news, the water was only about 18 inches deep near the bank or a beach type area.

When did Casino's start running background checks on Winners. Maybe they should have run him before he was allowed to gamble so he wouldn't have the potential to just lose money there.

Why dont the casinos advertise that fact that if you win a criminal check will be run? While most would have no problem including myself I have never heard this before....Not in there advertisments. Are they checking the people that hold their fequent player cards?? Is this also in missouri??? Is it after a certain amount???

KTVI, Could you look further into this regarding this man's winning and why the IL Gaming Board would bother to flag him for outstanding warrants and Explain it to all of us?

The only Agencies that need to be concerned with his winnings would be the IRS and the IL Tax Agency.

If they are worried about criminals in the Casinos they should flag them on the way in and NOT on the way out and only after Winning Big.

Gene Miller was the father of two beautiful girls and had a girlfriend of twenty years. He may have had issues with the laws, but he loved his family. Issues with the law do not and should not dictate your worth. Bottom line, Casino Queen didn't want to pay up, and his family deserves that money. For those of you that have nothing better to do than bad mouth a man you didn't know you should be ashamed of yourselves. If you have nothing nice to say then try saying nothing at all. Especially when you form an opinion based on one news story. How dare you run your mouths about this man in plain site of a site his daughters can read. Pathetic

I agree with you trinity62x. Hurtful and hateful comments shows nothing but ignorance. Jugdement is Gods job. I hope his family gets a good lawyer. I am sadden by this and hurt for his family, I know they loved him. Rest in Peace, Gene.
