If you have questions or concerns about it or the new 4 point grading system you NEED to attend the Dec. 20 board meeting at Athena Elem at 6pm.

Standard Based Grading isn't the problem... The problem is the 4 point grading scale... Stardard based grading is great! All that it means is that teachers are held accountable to teach the curriculum the state has mandated each school to implement and then grade each assignments/tests/projects on the individual standard... A standard is basically something the state says needs to be taught. For example a communication arts standard might be: Develop and apply effective speaking skills and strategies for various audiences and purposes... All that means is that the teacher has an individual grade for that standard... There are many many more standards and they have to grade according to each standard... The problem is that the 4 point grading scale and the software the district is using is screwing up the students grades... It no longer shows average of all grades it only shows the students latest grade or "trend" as it is called... I can not explain all the ins and outs of it, so if you are really concerned like the above poster said, please attend the school board meeting this month...
