Hillman School Board Recall

What are the people who signed petitions to recall 3 Hillman school Board members thinking.
This is the best our Hillman Schools have been in 30 years.
I bet the people who signed petitions don't even go to Board Meetings to know the truth of the what is happening there.
Area schools are trying to follow Hillman's lead. They have done some awesome things for the students of the school district.
Do people realize how well our school district in Hillman has done financially and yet produce top notch programs. I understand that graduation class of 2009 was 98%. How can this be wrong in todays times when a place like Flint/detroit hits 25%. Hillman voters better research there facts before going to the polls to remove a top notch school Board members. Remember its a thankless job and I certainly would not want to tackle the problems they have over the past 8 years.

The community of Hillman should be so proud of what has been achieved within their school system. Although I am unfamilar with most of the folks comprising the board, I am familiar with Jim Zavislak. I have seen the outcome of his hard work through-out Montmorency county....not just Hillman. As the Veterans Administrator he has relieved the burden of financial stress for veterans and/or widows of our vets. His committment to serve the greater good of our community shines through all the political back-stabbing and lies that surround the current recall situation, and I doubt seriously you will find any person who is willing to serve with the same level of vision or loyalty.

Hillman Schools are in a terrible spot. I graduated from there (and spent my whole life in Hillman Schools) and am astonished at the amount of disrespect adults gave students at that place.
There was one person who actually cared about the students in that place and it was Dan Gibson. He was more of a principal in his last years there than Jack Richards. Half the time when something needed to be done Richards just went to Gibson anyways.
I caught janitors and other people who worked at the school making fun of students who got their lunch late and had to eat fast. The two adults sat there pointing and laughing at the kid, and when confronted about it yelled at me and another kid to get to class.
Teachers are passing kids just to get them out of their classes and not have to deal with them again. Richards played favorites whenever it came time to punish someone. As long as you were a student who played sports you were pretty much guaranteed to get away with most anything.
Richards and near all the other people there just want the school to look good to anyone looking. Richards didn't report multiple sexual harassment incidents to anyone -- not even the parents of the kids involved. When confronted about it he refused to admit that he ever knew about any sexual harassment cases in the school, and said they didn't happen. He would eat his words later after Sumerix found the forms detailing the cases that had been filled out by the kids who felt harassed and signed by none other than Richards himself.
A 98% graduating class doesn't mean anything when most the staff there were purposely allowing kids who shouldn't have been graduating to graduate. The only kids who didn't graduate are the ones who basically didn't show up the last week of school.
Tom Banks came in and spoke to my class about a petition filed to attempt to get our class colors changed. Tom Banks rounded up and yelled at the entire class that "we don't know how it worked in the real world" over some people wanting the class colors changed.
The school and it's figureheads are jokes. Tom Banks and Jack Richards and plenty of the other staff at Hillman don't care about students. Anywhere else their behavior would have them jobless. They get off the hook here because of how Hillman is -- and the fact that most parents in the town are just as bad as them when it comes to making fun of other people's kids. The schools are a joke. Too bad it probably won't matter in a couple years once Tom Banks gets done running the school 6 feet under financially.

Given the information of tax fraud by Wellington township addministration past and present. The board of education of Hillman School District has yet to act responsibly to collect tax money that has been owed to them. They are not alone, citizens knowing this still sit on there hands and our constitution and children are violated by these elected and appointed individuals. Township has spent over $30,000 on a reappraisal contracted with an assessor duo husban and wife in the past three years that also was appointed by our governor to represent supervisors of our state.

Hillman student complaining of how the school is run has definitely not been paying attention.
Hillman schools is recently over the past 4 years been shown to be the top school in Northern Michigan. School Board and Finance Officer for the school have kept Hillman solvent and have produced balanced budgets and yet improved school curriculm for the future.
Finances have not been that good in many years, and this with the State of Michigan making reductions in School funding. Just recently the State approved a $11 per student increase, the school board has lost an average of $100 a year over the last 4 years but yet improved the fund balance and made big improvements in the schools education requirements for the future.
As for sexual problems in the school, this is a joke, it would of been mentioned and bought up at the school board meetings by parents , if not the students. Mr Summerix was a joke and liar and created more problems for the students then helped them. He stirred the pot so to speak because he was not able to do his job effectively and covered it up by throwing the blame on the school board and mr Richards. Best thing that ever happed is that he retired. He was hardly ever at the school and at 3:30 was probably the first one out of the parking lot.

In 2008 my Daughter was one of a group girls who filled out a sexual harassment report in the school office.
After she came home from school and told me about it I waited for weeks and never herd a word from the school so I went and talked to Richards about it.
He told me "no one has ever filed a sexual harassment report in Hillman schools."
And Mr. Summerix did find the reports.
The other parents and I had no confidence that Tom Banks and the Board would do anything but back up Richards and sweep it under the rug so no, it most likely never was talked about at a board meeting.

did the parents of those girls ever confront the school board? The board ususally does not know what is happeing if they don't hear it up front that is what I was told by a couple of the old board members.

UScitizen47, you need to worry about Lewiston! Until you have experienced the lies, deceit and drama of Hillman Community Schools you have no business criticizing the parents here. These board members know what's going on, they just choose to look the other way. A lot of "the good ol' boys" goes on over here. It's all in the name, who you are and who you clique with!

Shouldn't Mr. Richards be paying the Hillman School District for breach of contract? Is it too late for the people of Hillman to get that money back?

Morally and ethically standards of our people in charge of education, is that what you are asking?
"Some Mom", you know as well as I do this was a well thought out decision or a complete failed attemp of the board to act financially. Unfortunately this was probly done legally like a whole lot shitty things in this world we live in. That leaves teaching a oblication to all grown-ups and many times that I personally have done the wrong things in life.

The moment you spend 12 years through that school system, let me know. After that then you can talk about what does on in that school and how it's supposedly the "best school in northern Michigan".
The people there don't care about the students. Only the almighty dollar. I saw so much harassment towards students from the faculty it was disgusting.
If I was still in high school and had the choice, I would have transferred to Alpena in a heart beat.

And also, do you think most kids would be willing to come forward in public about the sexual harassment issues? Most kids are embarrassed about it and feel as if somehow it's their fault, mean while the adults they do reach out to about it do NOTHING to help them. It's sickening.
