For those complaining about transportation to the new HEB Plus store - have you ever heard of rollerblades? Get out and get some exercise!

This really shows the entitlement mentality of people. They feel everything should be done for them, or at least keeping them in mind. They have a right to have a private business cater to them! Geez.

i really cant imagine picketing over something like this, unbelievable. I can understand how they don’t want to see the store close, but such is life, get over it. Oh, and I wish I could tell them to get a job or something; they have too much time on their hands.

what neighborhood doesn’t have old folks and some handicapped people? i am not saying i am happy they these people are losing their easy shopping. i know its hard for the old to change there habits. However to protest and cry like kids over it is really ridiculous.

Who knows, maybe these people will make some friends on the bus on the way to heb

I hate to tell you that you have to be poor or handicapped or struggling to be able to grasp this idea of why they are wanting it open, thats right OPEN! Dont miss understand everyone;they all love this grocery store & chain, its a grat store not just because of location. I'm sure if you had a relative (Mother,Grandmother,Aunt) that could not drive, was handicapped, crippled,or any major health condition and in the same condition, you would do the same.Oh by the way to the people who made horrible comments about overweight people, which I have no issues with overweight poeple, I rarely see any at this store and as I said, it is mostly handicapped and elderly, there are 5 senoirs homes nearby and 3 areas for where many handicapped live, and many single parents both men and women. I know for a Fact from workers that work at the main Office with Charles Butt, they are shocked also at his decision, they can't say so because they will get fired, but they completly understand these citizens.

Waaaaaaa, they're closing my HEB
Waaaaaa, I have to walk my fat ass to the bus stop to go shopping.

Waaaaaaa, it's unfair, HEB should deliver my groceries because I'm too fat to drive / walk / catch the bus / call a cab / etc.

Waaaaaa, I'm protesting because I don't have a job and there's nothing else to do.

Waaaaaaa, poor me, waaaaaa, i'm helpless, waaaaaaa
I do not feel entitled

It is so sad to see all the negativity on this site. I'm an educated professional living in this neighborhood, but not because I have to, but because I want to. I know my neighbors, our homes are well kept, we all work and are good citizens. I think what people are seeing is what I see myself...that people are really struggling. I have even felt the "pinch" as never before. I shop at this particular HEB and have come to love it. It only has the essentials/staples that keep those who shop here going, but that's all that is needed. I've also seen people walking from the store with grocery bags in their hands, the elderly counting their change to pay for the little they can afford...I see hard working single parents and yes, I see the less fortunate and those with disabilities and it hurts deep down, because "there but for the Grace of God go I." I also remember when HEB asked us to shop at their "hometown grocery store."
Well, these "hometown" stores were found in the neighborhoods and we rejected the Krogers and Alberstons because our loyalty to HEB, but now where is their loyality to those who kept them in business all these years...well, located right down the street from the WalMart of course. These folks aren't just "belly-aching" but rather really struggling and I feel sorry for Mr. Butt for not showing a bit of compassion and demonstrating the "green" philosophy that I see his company trying to portray. What kind of carbon footprint will this new HEB Plus be making? Will I be shopping there...probably, but then again, it's not that far from the WalMart that promises lower prices...my loyality is just not as strong as it used to be. I think we are forgetting what's been said many times before... that we judge a society or in this case, a business by how they treat the least fortunate amongst them. So, ask yourself, how is HEB treating those who are in the most need? Enough said, "Do unto others as you would have done unto you."

Emotional drivel, that’s all I see here. Heb is a business, it makes sense for them to do the things they are doing. They have offered to pay for the bus ride to help these people out, that is amazing! That shows they do care.

If all the business world just did things for charity and change their plans so some poor of lady would have to ride a bus, the who dam economy would collapse. If you all feel so strongly about it, im sure heb would sell or rent the building to you so you can open a store there.

It doesn't make sense. H.E.B. is growing and making a beautiful store that will accommodate many people with fresh products, there's nothing wrong with that. Good for H.E.B.. I'm not sure why they are closing the older store though. If you go on the northside of town there are H.E.B.s everywhere. There are stores every four miles. 1604 & 281, 1604 & Blanco. Blanco & West ave., Huebner and N.W. Military. The one that I really don't understand is the Location on N.W. Military and Lockhill Selma which is less than two miles from the location on I-10 and Wurzbach. Why can't the people on the southside have a few H.E.B.s to chose from? Why can't H.E.B. accommodate those people who are on foot with more stores unlike the way they accommodate the people on the northside driving their BMWs and Benzs. It's too bad there's not much option besides H.E.B. I don't live on the southside, but it just doesn't seem right. For those of you saying everyone just wants to whine, think of the elderly without cars or the crippled. You may be in that situation one day. I understand it's all about profits but what you bring back to a community is also important if you want that community to support you.

Sure Powerstarvedrive, Cigar chomper, Poor Ass Poor me, go ahead and and be critical of those people who raised hell about closing the HEB. At least they had the pride and right to protest to keep the store open. When one day this happens to you, I hope someone makes you eat your words. Yes, I marched there too. And instead of hiding behind your make believe phony wanna bees computer names and shoot people down, why wasn't your lazy asses across the street from the people that protested on S. Presa. I know, you were lazy, thinking of idiotic things to write and share. In the future know what the hell you are talking about.

candid you are a moron. We were at our jobs earning money so the government can take it and give it to the real lazy people. im guessing ones like you.

Secondly, why would i waste my time protesting so utterly ridiculous? i do understand what’s going on here, you folks have an entitlement mentality. You think that private business should cater to your stupid asses. Life doesn’t work that way, sorry. if you are so full of energy why don’t you rent the building and put in a store for these poor people?

the day that my local heb store closes down a small, old store and a few miles down the road opens a nice big clean store that is tons better, ill gladly take my free bus ride and head to my awesome new store....

Where do you socialist morons come from anyway?

well i used to work at this heb #6 on presa ... and everyone there hated that it was going to close....
there is alot of elederly ppl ther that have been shopping there since they were younger and i fell saddened for them ...
but what ticks me off is how the ppl who live across the street from the other HEB that is closing also complain about the store moving because now " they have to walk a whole ten yards more to get to the new store" SHUT UP!!! its still just right across the street.
and the whole bus situation seems to be good just in hine sight. cause there are alot of ppl using those busses and there are 23 stops from the old HEB to the new store with ice cream and things like that it can melt before you get home.
ANd i guess MR BUTT thought that it would be fine .. but in reality everyone hates this new store it is way too big and all the employees from HEB 13 are RUDE and also the managers SUCK!
THIS WAS A BAG MISTAKE FOR HEB
But i truly believe that #6 Will be re opened :)
