I'm pretty sure they pay city taxes already, but I do think they could get involved with the school district. How come our children are the only ones who have to get on a bus for an hour and a half in the mornings? Let's get some of our inner-city youth into the new schools they're building down there.

it would make more sense for you to move out of Jefferson County if you don't like the way the school system is run than to whine that we have shorter bus rides out here in a different county

Yeah - maybe you morons should learn what the word 'annex' means. County lines rarely have any impact into these decisions, just the size of the municipality and the urbanization of the areas to be annexed. You might want to do something called 'reading' before you post.

Amanda, I was simply trying to explain why it is the way it is. I'm not trying to dispute what could or couldn't be changed.
I apologize for being a moron.

None of that is accurate. State law prohibits cities to cross county boundaries - though there are a few like Corbin, KY that were grandfathered in. Allowing that would not be consistent with how county / city goverments relate to each other - you have issues with tax sharing, etc. that go on among the cities and the county government (like the insurance tax revenue so often talked about in Bullitt County).

And of course, one incorporated city has no power to annex another incorporated city.

That is a decision made by the Jefferson County School Board and Bullitt County nor anyone else has any responsibility for it. If you don't like it, and I can certainly understand why you don't, elect new school board members that will reform the policy.

You were correct in pointing out the county issue as it was key. If anyone should be apologizing, it is Amanda.

Go annex New Albany or Jeffersonville In. JCPS School problems are their own. It's a different county, therefore a different school board. Gee, we have our own superintendent and everything! We pay our own school taxes not to mention state taxes, our own city taxes and county taxes.
JCPS is precisely why I sold my home and moved to Bullitt County. If you want that, step up and do the same or fix the problem by voting for a new school board. How ridiculous is it of anyone to suggest that they are mad because "they childrens need to get on a bus and shipp to school across town"
and another ridiculous suggestion
"but I do think they could get involved with the school district. How come our children are the only ones who have to get on a bus for an hour and a half in the mornings? Let's get some of our inner-city youth into the new schools they're building down there."
News Flash..... WE ARE OUR OWN COUNTY/CITY/MUNICIPALITY/INCOR PORATED you can't go to school in a different county unless you get permission from the local school board (and they dont have to let you no matter what argument that you make) and ONLY if you agree to pay for your childs education in that county (upward of 25,000 per year) AS WELL AS continue to pay school taxes in the county that you live in.
Now, you brain surgeons also probably don't know that anyone who lives outside of Louisville but works in louisville also still pays taxes to the city of louisville it's called "Non-residents tax" right out of their paychecks and if I am not mistaken it is a higher rate than residents pay so we also "enjoy LOuisville" because we pay to be there.
Ridiculous, and typical.
