You should. Gaynell Rummage paid for an ad that list Shepherdsville city employee salaries and their wages. Some people received $5 raises on the hour with no job change. I'm sure the employees deserve it.....but didn't sewer rates just go through the roof because the city is "broke"?

Im for everyone that can better themselves and like you I'm sure they deserve the raises, but at the expense of who the tax payers. I'm well aware that these employees are tax payers as well. I'm sure your probably well aware as well as others that there is something rotten in city hall if you know what I mean! Our city is broke, but that money is going in someone's pockets not on bettering the city. I don't know and I can't speak for everyone but I need more bang for my buck!!

So..I thought there as an investigation a few years back about the missing money at city hall? Something is definitely rotten there and the taxpayers are getting reamed!

Five dollars an hour is a pretty dramatic increase when responsibilities weren't increased any at all,,,wouldn't you say??? And like you said,,,the sewer rates....In all fairness, shouldn't they be rolling up their sleeves and working harder for just enough of a pay increase to keep it interesting,(maybe two dollars an hour)??? And honestly,if we had a gang element or dangerous criminals or heavy traffic or anything like that for policemen to fight through in the course of their day,,,then I could understand paying them what we're paying them.As it stands though, the most dangerous entity that a policemen can statistically expect to encounter here in Shepherdsville,is a domestic violence charge from his wife,,,or an occasional editorial from a spartan here on the forum. And trust me,I'm not a jealous man,and would never want a man to lose what he's making,,,but I truly don't understand the twenty to thirty dollars an hour that these guys are getting paid.Believe me,if there's something I'm not seeing,,,I really want to see it.

Not hard to understand when the new council member (who is the ex fiancÚ of one of the police officers ) on the night of her first meeting made the motion to increase their pay. Go figure!

We the citizens should be more involved and raise some Hell! There is way too much corruption going on in this city and too little nothing done about it!! It's almost like an episode of The Dukes of Hazzard with a few Boss & Roshcoes running the town., only this shits not funny!!!!!!

Wow...you must have read the ad. LOL

I would be interested in knowing the levels of education the workers have. Out of the many I personally know on that list, not a single one has even an associates degree.

Ms.Holly I know it happens every where ,but we don't live everywhere and I can see its very apparent that its not what you know but who in this town. I would hate to say but would almost bet a lot of the people probably don't have much more than a High School/ GED degree who hold those positions . I mean how would you know with all the lies & cover ups that most likely happen?

Apparently the rest of the gang didn't have a real tough time getting on board with it.Reflecting on it for a moment though,I believe that I've found one upside to paying a professional wage to the local policemen.A policeman would probably take his job more seriously,be less apt to use brutality or perjure himself, and may actually carry himself with a little more integrity in all aspects of his life when he's making seventy-thousand dollars a year. However, while I'm thinking about how great that is,,,I can't help but wonder about something the jerk said,,,"who's paying for it",who's pot is falling short because of it,,,and will such a thing affect whether the grass stays mowed at the park or not???

As far as I have heard, the city is no longer "broke". Actually there is a surplus with more and more being put into reserve every month. Yes, with higher pay comes higher expectations of the officers, because I'm sure another officer would be more than happy to come to shepherdsville to take the place of those not meeting the high expectations of the department. Gaynell was complaining about her tax money going to the raise but she doesn't even live in the city limits. Maybe she should save her money and put it on her son's commissary in prison, since he will be there for a few years, put away by SPD. I'm sure she has animosity towards the PD for locking up her son for stealing from real taxpayers.

Where did that surplus com from? The gouging of the taxpayer on the sewer rates?

Who cares about Gaynell's son? I don't know him or her, but if he is a criminal, that still has no bearing on salaries of city workers. That's what you would call a "distraction" from the real issue....and it didn't work.

I'm gonna have to see this ad ... who in the world got a $5 raise? I'm all for paying people a decent and fair wage and I have no problem with increasing their pay but WOW!

I guess I need a job working for the city, despite getting good performance reviews every year I've never had more than a 4% pay increase, the last one was about 65 cents.

Here's the deal. Sewer taxes can only be used to pay the sewer debts and for the sewer fund. They have nothing to do with the general fund, where the city workers' pay comes from. All the other city taxes pay for that. You can't use money from one fund to the other either, that is illegal. The high sewer rates is used to fix the screw ups in the city sewer program that were overseen by ex-mayor Tinnell, Larry Hatfield, and Junior Bright. So if there is any complaint about high sewer rates, it should go towards those who caused the huge mess that is now being fixed. Until those problems are fixed, and the sewer dept/fund is stable, there will have to be a means of funding it, and the only way to do that is the current sewer rate. Once again, city wages come from the general fund, sewer taxes go to the sewer fund. These two can't be mixed or shared from.

The sewer department didnt get $5.00 raises. The police got the biggest raises. And that money doesnt come from the 66% sewer increase. And none of the sewer rate money can be used on general fund. Get your facts together before you post on this site. You may be a very smart person so dont get caught up in this mud slinging. Why arent Larry and Gaynell looking for the money that was stolen. This mayor hasnt done anything crooked. He has just let the police make him look a little foolish. And the surplus from the sewer has been used to pay down debt and to cover the reserve fund. None has been used for general fund. I dont think that most people know that the general fund and sewer are kept apart.

I have heard a couple of our council persons say this several times. "you can't use money from sewer fund for general fund and general fund for sewer fund." That is incorrect and I wish someone would correct them.

It may be true that you can not rob sewer fund to pay general fund bills. But you most certainly can use general fund money to pay down sewer debt. That is a no brainer. If we have all this surplus money that money should go to paying down this huge sewer debt we have.

Also your timeline is a bit out of wack. The sewer dept problems actually go back as far as Joe Sohm. Sherman may have added a bit to the problem. But the problems were certainly dumped in Councilman Hatfield's lap without a doubt.
