The reason there are so many bashing law enforcement around the Galena area is very simple. They operate on the good ole boy system in other words if you are one of those embraced by the good ole boys of Stone Co. you cannot be prosecuted no matter what laws you break and if by some chance you are prosecuted then you will get a slap on the wrist. In some cases it is just covered up like the instance where the deputy allowed his gun to get into the hands of his 2 year old baby and it accidently shot itself. Hard to understand that kind of negligence or a baby being able to kill itself with an officers gun but that was the story and it was swept under the rug very quickly
Now if you are not in the circle of corrupt law enforcement friends, relatives as an example say you are gay , black, hispanic, democrat or otherwise undesireable to the corrupt rednecks that are in power in this area then you will be ignored when you need them or told they only have to take a report nothing else are they required to do for you not prosecute or investigate and if they feel like you might just possible stand up to their corrupt sherrif or prosecuter then they will pull out all the stops to have you harrassed. The only way to protect yourself is to record everything and put some doubt in their minds whether or not they can get by with it.
Now Curious, Traveler and the rest of you that want to insinuate it is lack of respect for the law down here no FYI it is lack of respect for the corrupt law. I suggest you all stay in Sugarland where it is all nice and sweet!
Well aint that just special. I have a feeling you make a habit of adressing subjects you have minimal knowledge on. Yes, there are problems in Stone Co.(as you say). But some of the statements you make, show a complete lack of knowledge of the situation.
There are quite a few people on here that know exactly who I am, and no doubt maybe suprised that I don't join in this bashing of law enforcement. What you need to understand is that you need to pick your battles and get your information straight before you post. I have known the officer you refer to that lost his son due to a horrible accident for a long time. I would trust him with my life, my family's well being or anything that I hold dear. A good man doesn't need to be subjected to the ignorance and blather of the ill-informed. On the subject you brought up, there is no "coverup", only a family and friends trying to understand how this could have happened in the best of situations. That's why they call them accidents. They have no rhyme nor reason.
Pick on the Dept. if you want to, but don't try to bring an individual officer's hell (that you know nothing about) into the equation.

I apologize for any confusion the above from "Elmo" might have caused. Occasionally I get in a humorous mood and use that name. The subject of the above is not in any way humorous so some clarification is in order.

Tickle
It is negligence on the part of this officer as a parent and law enforcement to allow a baby to get a gun and shoot itself. A good man, parent or officer would not have been so careless. No doubt in my mind you know him and I am sure you think you are Very important as it is obvious from your comments. But I do not care who you are or how important you think you are in this world you do not matter to me.

"JFD" you are right, I do "know". I might point out, there is a vast difference in thinking you know what you're talking about and actually knowing what you're talking about. Any talk of "coverup" on this subject is rediculous. While I do question some of the decisions made by SCSD, this tragedy was handled with honesty and class. If you want to knock that Dept. or one of it's members, I would suggest you pick a situation where something was done wrong. As to my importance in the big scheme of things, I will leave that for others to decide.

HA! Class in Stone County now thats funny.
You are so full of yourself Traveling Elmo!
Whatever your bluster and blow the fact remains this is negligence. Just no other way it can be explained and if there wasn't a cover up as you claim Elmo then why so very little said about it at the time? Seems to me if the baby picked the lock and got the gun loaded it and commited suicide then it would have been a more open situation.
Go on you massive blowhard!
Nothing else I want to say about this or Stone County politics and corruption.
That is all very well known.
Not likely to change until all the old geezers like Sherrif Hill and Matt Selby are either voted out, in the nursing home or passed away. Any way you want to look at it those old bussards will be gone in a few years.
Been a pleasure really chewing the fat with you old man but all good things must end and hopefully bad ones too.

Son, you don't know that you don't know. I can understand the frustration, but you should pick your battles a little better.
