Who & why did HVABSA hire this guy that calls him self "Coach"? He sends emails to parents who participate in the assoc. At first we thought he was joking in his emails when he called kids LOSERS and don't pick the fat kids. He makes personal insults to the kids and parents in his emails. However it became apparent that he was serious with his abusive & vulgar statemments when we attended a coach meeting. HVABSA should be ashamed of themselves to hire such an indecent and loathing person to teach and coach young boys & girls the game of baseball. Do you really want a person who talks with ignorance and hostilality coaching our kids?

Below are some of the statements he wrote in his emails:

What do you call a kid that won't shorten his swing and put the ball in play with two strikes, less than two outs and a runner on third? LOSER!

What do you call a kid that can't or won't bunt? LOSER!

What do you call a kid with a rifle arm in RF that throws through to the bag at 3rd, missing the cut off and allowing the winning run to advance to 2nd? LOSER!

What do you call a 12 year old pitcher that throws 70 MPH but refuses to sacrifice a little velocity so that he doesn't walk three batters an inning? LOSER!

The black kids will be the fastest, the vast majority will be about even and the fat kids will be the slowest. But you might make a note as to who at least looks athletic when running.(That is meant to be funny. Please refrain from spouting liberal indignation)

Don't get carried away with the big kid that pops long flyballs. He isn't going to see those pitches in real games. Look for kids with good swings that hit line drives. I really like kids that take pitches that aren't good pitches and go with the pitch if it is away.

Then there are the intangibles. Some kids just carry themselves with an inner arrogance that speaks to their confidence that they will succeed. I can't stand whiney little excuse makers or those that aren't serious. You are going to be spending a lot of time with these kids. Whiners and goof offs are a waste of time.

Listen and make notes. If you overhear a coach you respect mention that a kid is a little turd, you might want to see if you can get corroboration from another source and take that info into consideration. By the same token, if you hear Dad is an overbearing jerk, he might be a kid to avoid. PITA parents (Pain In The Ass Parents) are to be avoided under any circumstances. No matter how good their kid is, life is too short and winning too unimportant to endure their grief.

A wise coach makes notes about Moms when they drop their kids off. There comes a point in the later rounds when all things being equal, I'm taking the GLM (Good Looking Mom) on the theory that if the kid isn't very good at least I will enjoy watching her in the stands.

Unless you have a couple of returning studs, your first pick in the draft will be the best potential pitcher available. Then if you don't have one, a catcher.

The key to winning is to have stud pitchers. It is amazing how good your defense is when the pitcher is K'ing 10+ a game. The key to having at least one stud pitcher is to sire one because you probably aren't going to be able to draft 2 stud pitchers.

I always operate on the theory that if a dog is gonna bite you he'll bite you when he is a pup. So I will always take a younger, weaker, less developed stud over an older, stronger maybe even better but mediocre for his age, player.

When it is all said and done, you will have some good ones, some average ones and a couple of “basket cases”.
