I'd like to hear you experiences with Youth basketball (8 to 14 year olds) in Flower Mound. I'm not particularly impressed with the NTBA due to their costs and the fact that you are required to purchase a new uniform each school year when ALL uniforms they sell are identical (the reversible kind). I know there are leagues at YMCA and the Upward league in Lewisville. I've since decided to play our team in the Grapevine Youth Basketball league.

Greg, We aren't very pleased with NTBA and are looking for something else as well, as are many on our team. In Grapevine, do you have to have an entire team though? We don't have enough or a full-time coach. This is so needed in our area and I've recently contacted Flower Mound Parks and Recs about this issue. We are in the process of discussing it, but not sure if changes will be made anytime soon.

In the Grapevine league, you can either bring an established team or you can add individual players to the league pool where they are placed on a team. Grapevine league is sponsored by the city, so costs are very good and you can reuse uniforms from year to year!

I really hope a good alternative to this grapevine league materializes in Flower mound sometime soon. I'd like to see the city of FM get behind it.

Unfortunately, Grapevine is full for the winter session. I spoke with them yesterday-:( I have contacted the Town of Flower Mound regarding the many issues with NTBA and they are very responsive, as NTBA's contract is up for renewal in May. If you know anyone who would like to voice their concern about any issues with NTBA, please have them email mark.long@flower-mound.com Thanks for your time.

Greg, I wanted to let you know that through another parent we found a league that's in Lewisville. It has it's games and practices at the Lewisville Rec Center. From what we hear it is organized and everyone seems pleased with it. They have rec and select teams. We went Saturday to the try outs and it's not only half the cost of NTBA, they have two set practices mon/wed or tue/thur and games on Saturday. On the rec team, you're allowed to bring 4 players then you draft the remainder that went through try outs. Anyway, not sure if you're still reading this post, but wanted to let you know. It's called BCI. Here's the web addy: http://www.bcibasketball.org/inside.php...

Hi, did you all know that the Lewisville Rec Center is property that is owned by City of Lewisville. Oh by the way, the NTBA has to use LISD facilities and pay for the supervisor and cannot use the Flower Mound Rec Center gyms.

I would definitely stay away from the Upward in Lewisville. Doug is the leader over there and is extremely incapable. He can not understand the concept of upward. I coached there 3 years.

By far, BCI Lewisville offers the best situation for youth basketball in the Lewisville/Flower Mound Area. The cost per season is very reasonable at around $70. Teams are usually even matched due to the drafting process for teams. All practices are at one assigned gym each week. All games are officiated by sanctioned referees. Games are 4 8 minute quarters. Teams usually have 9 or less players on it so each player get plenty of playing time. I guaranty you will be very pleased in participating in BCI. Melanie Armstrong does a great job for this organization.

Daily Horoscope for December 21

Libra

You've been quite a gadabout in recent weeks, but as the Sun enters Capricorn at the Solstice, you start to yearn for the comforts of home. You might even be tempted to cancel some forthcoming social events, so you can flop on your sofa and catch your breath. Sentimental thoughts could steal over you in coming weeks, making you think about some of the people you used to know and love.
