It's time for a parent to file a kidnapping charge against the driver. It's also time for stupid Larry Altamirano to have his azz fired. How can he say they are going to "retrain" a driver who is clearly a psycho? He needs to have his head handed to him on a platter.

How about one kidnapping (no pun intended) charge for each child present on the bus at the time of the incident?

"Removed from his route?" This psychopath needs to be fired. He's lucky my kid wasn't on that bus, because he would have never made it home.
The name of this driver is public information. Once again, a local governing body (this time the school district, a repeat offender) is violating New Mexico Open Records law by not releasing the name of this insane driver. Again, the name of an employee whose salary comes from public funds IS PUBLIC and the district or the company they contract to do this job CANNOT legally refuse to release the name.

What the bus driver did here was really stupid no doubt about it. I hope the bus company has been saving the tapes of what's been going on for this to lead to this point because, there is always two sides to every story. Sounds to me like he let his anger get the better of him and he may pay for it without support from either side, not the company who is very short handed on personel to help him deal with this situation, or the parents of the lolly-popped kids, who have been issued books every year on the rules on the bus, NO FOOD, DRINKS AND CELL PHONES, and most likely never read them. No doubt the driver was wrong here but I challenge every parent with a child on any bus, TAKE THE TIME TO MEET YOUR CHILD'S DRIVER AND DEVELOP AN OPEN COMMUNICATION, to occasionally request to view how his or her child is "really" behaving on the bus. YOU WOULD BE SHOCKED to see what bus drivers go through.

These were elementary school children, this is reprehensible! If this company allows this driver to continue driving students, you can be sure my children will never ride the bus and I will work tirelessely to have this companies contract revoked or never renewed.
This is an insult to those caring, great bus drivers that are out there.

Wow! Unbelievable. I lived my entire life in Las Cruces, and now live in the midwest. The buses would never do that here. The driver would have been arrested immediately if this happened anywhere else. Sometimes news can be jaded, but there isn't any way to jade this story. My mother lion would have come out in me too. Kudos for the mom following the bus. And this is one reason that kids should have a cell phone in their back pack.

Student Accused Of Hitting Las Cruces Bus Driver on the Head.........and this one happened on Friday, May 1, 2009, yesterday. It's just never enough....you can have eight eyes, two in the back of your head, two to look forward for traffic, two to look up to the mirrors to see the spit balls or gum coming at you, and two to watch that they enter and exit safely on the bus. Oh don't forget your smelling senses of the one smoking in the back or the two "miss prissy" ladies spraying perfume on one another while the ones next to them with asthma, start having health problems. So you separate them and now, you are accused of discrimination. So you say write them up, and you do, many times. Copies of this get mailed each time to the parents, IF, it ever gets past the overwhelmed stacks in the office. Parents don't care. It's the driver's JOB. Well yes, but that one job description, comes with a million responsibilities. WHERE ARE THE PARENTS? WHERE IS THE SUPPORT? Yes, very true, 99.9% of drivers go into this job because they care for kids and love to drive but most don't realize what they are getting into until they have to scrape the gum off the floors and seats, wash the ink off the seats and walls, sweep the mess off the floors, put a stop to fights, and yes, like this person yesterday, risk being harmed like many have in the past. Not only do drivers do the best job they can but they do it in extreme weather conditions of no air conditioning in the bus, no health insurance, no paid vacations and a salary quite lower than most drivers in other parts of the country. So I say, yes, this driver was wrong and probably very frustrated with not having got the support he needed from the principal, who also know the rules, but also, I think many parents are just washing their hands of their responsibilities, their own kids, and putting it on others to raise them.

I'm speechless. The mishandling of this case by Altamirano, Principal, and police is outrageous. The bus driver is obviously mentally unstable, deserves the least blame. How did he get hired?

Ditto!
I see it happen every day! These poor bus drivers are not respected. Parents dont realize all the crap they put up with, they should ride along one day. granted what he did was wrong but he probably blew up just like the teacher did at Dorado.
Enough is enough parents need to stop babying their kids and show them how to respect adults, doesnt matter if its a teacher, bus driver, or someone working at Walmart. People can only take so much and they explode. and now all these parents are going to be sue happy and make some bucks out of this sad situation and these kids win again!

It doesn't stop there either... the things teachers put up with in their classrooms...some of these kids are so disrespectful and don't care about anything. They totally ignore teachers and when parents are told about misbehavior's of their kids they don't do anything. So, what can teachers do about that! It is a lost cause! Kids now a days are so defiant, you just want to slap the CRA* out of them!

I think it's kinda funny. Kids are brats and sometimes deserve to be taught a lesson. But I'd be pi55ed if my daughter was on the bus! But then again, my daughter is an angel and doesn't deserve to be taught a lesson because of other kids who deserve it...

sounds familiar, our childrens bus driver also decided to drive back to the school and kicked our children off the bus when he got to the school. I had to go get my daughter at school (Camino Real). If they cant deal with minors why work around them?

What the hell is wrong with Las Cruces? Not a day goes by that you do not hear about a child being molested, someone shot and killed, drive by shootings, and now this bus driver situation!
