Judging by the whining, glad you are leaving! Good riddance.

My start time is 5AM and I am done at 1PM. I am back to Vernon 2:00ish and the last 1/2 hour is beautiful no traffic country drivin! I used to live across town from the local Shop-Rite it would take 15 minutes to get there, I now live miles away and it takes 15 minutes to get there. Same can be said about Home Depot, the Mall, movies or anything else, same drive time just more miles. A true story, I had a friend from down below at my house and we had to go to Home Depot, he asked how far away is it and I said like 20 minutes, as we pulled in the parking lot he said OMG you lied this place was far away, I showed him the clock and said look it took us 23 minutes to get here. A few weeks later we were working at his house and had to make the trip to his “local” Home Depot. I made a mental note of the time and when we pulled into the parking lot I said OMG this place was so far…………. 25 minutes. I will take the country ride over the crowded roads of down below every time. True cost of commuting? Not having to sit in traffic to go someplace, PRICELESS!!

If you don't LOVE Italian food don't move to any place in Sussex County in the first place. As for Vernon there is virtually nothing to do within 25 miles except Mt. Creek and you can't park at one half empty strip mall and walk to another because there are no sidewalks except on Church St and that one has a utility pole smack in the middle of it.

Maybe you should consider Connecticut or New York state.

Wow, you are surrounded by nature and all you worry about is walking to the next strip mall. There is plenty to do if you look around. Maybe it is you who should be relocating and hopefully far away, Vernon is certainly not a fit for you.

LOL! Where exactly are these Essex County Projects you speak of? Essex Fells? Upper Montclair? North Caldwell? Never see a field for months? I pass by fields every day. You seem to be either misinformed or willfully ignorant. Which is it?

Phoenix, given the restrictions placed by the Highlands Act, there is very little more development allowed so the existing fields might well remain for the foreseeable future. That is somewhat of a mixed bag as Camp Sussex is screaming for someone to take it on but can only be used as it was in the past, consequently nothing is happening. As for you, Menards, face reality man, you either live in the projects or are currently helping convert the area you live to the next one like you did in Stonehill.

Let's see....the pipeline stripped an area, solar fields (look lovely, don't they?), another cable to be added to the dozen or so already on the poles, building still being done. Fields and empty areas already over developed up to swamps. Some were hastily built just prior to and in anticipation of the Highlands Act. Just ask Zaretsky and Mulvihill. Concessions to the "Act" have already been made. Don't believe your "fields" will remain as long as you say.

Phoenix, there is a lot of sense and truth in what you say has occurred, I am however more hopeful about what will occur if the right people get re-elected.

"if the right people get re-elected" Do you really believe that elected officials have the power to do anything? They dont. They are pawns. They cater to a certian group, and dazzel the other 99.5% with bullshit and nonsense.

You want the absolute truth? I can't wait till the housing market turns around just enough so I can get back just what I put into my place then I'm getting out of this hell hole never to return.

Menards, truer words were never spoken. I totally agree with you. Re-elected? Let's hope not. Those three are the most do-nothing, rubber stamp, rude, puppets ever. There isn't a backbone among them.

i do love vernon, think a lot of the problems are on the school bus...its always the kids who parent think its not them starting problems....as for taxes, everyone here seems to think they are high..i have 5 ft shy of an acre and pay 6,000....approx...lived in clifton and had a 35 x 100 foot lot and 10 years ago paid over 5,000....the location is just beautiful..and after 10 years have to sometimes stop and just see the beauty...and drugs are all over, anywhere you go...there really is not much for the kids to do up here, unless you are involved in a school activity and not all are and thats fine, just nothing for them then....housing...oh yes, i owe more than my house is now worth, but not sure what its like in other areas..i did know when i moved here how far away everything was...i did all my investigating before coming here and so glad i did....i am glad i moved and sorry for those of you who don't feel the same....thats just my personal opinion....so no hate mail back..keep your negative insults to yourself....

I would be interested in knowing what any of you who commented negatively have had to do with helping to change what you don't like about this town. Have any of you gotten involved in anything? and if so, how did it turn out? We have and guess what? It turned out quite positively both for what we were involved in AND for our families...by showing our children if you want a change you have to be a part of it, YOU have to make it happen. To those who can't wait to get out - don't let the door hit you on the backside. Your house can and will sell, your mortgage company will work with you. Some will even PAY YOU TO LEAVE! And, in as little as three years your credit could be good enough to buy another. It's that easy, so SEE YA! I know there are good folks out there willing to work a little harder to make a change an drive a little longer for what this area has to offer, which is quite a lot if YOU WANT IT!

Yes I read it and wrote it, I have also read your posts. You pick on people for how they feel, what is that, what kind of person does that. You throw out garbage that just is not true with nothing to back it up. In my post I stated facts about living up here, you couldn’t dispute my facts because they are just that facts. I see you for what you are and it is not a good thing, as I said I can only pity such a sad person and thank god I am not and hope to never be such a bitter person. You can NOT bully me so save your energy, my future posts to you will only be to say “I pity you”.
