We are fed up with Sussex Rural's inability to restore power after 5 days in an area that has trecherous weather every winter. It is a RURAL area, hence Sussex Rural is our company. Alot of people couldn't stand another night without power and had to go to hotels to get a hot shower.[finally]. We are very grateful for the teams that assisted us from various states. However, to not get an answer on the phone from a utility company [in an emergency] is very frustrating.
Thank you for appreciating the men that have been helping. I am sorry for you dissatisfaction with your company. We are fortunate that the company that my usband works for is a very reputable company. Living in an area like yours it is difficult to have enough supplies in stock to accomodate a storm of this nature. The cost for the company would be horrendous. One never knows what will be coming. Having outages in our rural area we have been prepared by having alternate heat sources and a generator. You may want to check these items out knowing that you live in an area that apparently has outages frequently. I know the men are hooking up services today for the customers, so hopefully you will be able to watch your tv, and use your phones very soon. PS - we are to get ice tonight, tomorrow, and over the weekend, so maybe we will be in your same situation, but WE will be prepared. So therefore my husband will more than likely be working around the clock again and will be gone for more than a week from his family, taking care of other families. I am so proud of my husband and what he does and appreciate greatly all the men and women who work in the utility business. To those that cannot understand all of this...walk a day in their shoes.

We have't had power since Thursday night and didn't even see any So-sucks Rotten Electric people in out neighborhood until late last night.
We still don't have power & that lousy company isn't picking up the phone.
I hate to say it, but this might be the last straw, I think we're going to move, I can deal with everything else up here ,but any compitant power company would have had this power back on already, spending 4 days without power is ridiculous.
Maybe one day, we'll have a choice in utilities like we do for TV or phone & then they'll have to work for our business instead of treating us like sh*t.
Just to let you know.. it doesn't matter who you get your utilities from they all will run through the same lines.

OK!!! Finally have power and can turn off my generator. I still see a lot of branches and trees on the lines in Section 11 of Highland Lakes. I suspect the power will go out again. I had to attach the electric back on the house and patch a few holes as well as many people. This was the most costly storm for me in 23 years. The weather for the week not looking so good more snow and ice. YIKES!!! Time to move south.

Don't come to Florida, everyone is leaving, between outragous homeowners insurance and no jobs we put a line out at the border, CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. LOL

Glad to hear you have your electric back on, lived in the valley a long time and love Vernon, only I can't afford to come back. Heard that there is more snow on the way tonight or tomorrow.

I agree, I was without power from Thursday till Monday nite. Those linemen were "rocking the clock" they were doing the best they could. I work in the industry and I know it's not an easy job in the best of conditions. What peeved me was the red cross was in Vernon and no one in my neighborhood knew about it.

I have been without power since thurs evening it is now tues my grip is not with sre its with the lack of knowledge and common sense some people have The paper stated the electrician must put the box's on the house b/4 they can hook up the power lines to the house. The electician we got was clueless it took him 2 days to prove it to him the first day he just said he was lost and ended up heloing someone else. The second day it took my husband to flip out on him to get it into his thick head that he was to put the box in. If it wasn't for this nice helpful sre employee who climbed the poll because the trucks were down the street repairing a telephone poll with a transformer if it wasn't for him we would still be out of electric he didn't have to stop what he was doing to help us but he did and God please him for that.

This storm was very unusual don't blame sussex rural, we had a zillion trees and branches down, also I cant tell you how many poles were down along with the electrical wires. BE SENSIBLE and PREPARED GET A GENERATOR!!!!!! Oh and for the Vernon Mom that gave the definition of Sussex Rural to mean it was named for the rural area's, the history of the electric co. was that Sussex counties farmers started this co-op Sussex rural electric serves areas where farming areas are and were. Highland lakes and Barry lakes had alot of farms up here in past times. So get a generator and give them a break, they certainly give us one with our electric bills, I guess you don't realize how good we have it when we write our electric payment out each month. Check it out as apposed to JCP&L with a CEO raking in the bucks, with the co-op the money goes to upgrade our electral system and other things plus we have a say becouse we are the co-op. Have a little faith remember, no big CEO making the money, we have a stocks in our own electric company. Thank you PA resident for the help of your husbands from your company helping ours. I know I appreciate the help that you gave us. Some people didnt know how bad it really was up here. GET A GENERATER AND STOP COMPLAINING.
