Daughter and family live on Route 565, can't get through on phone.....I'm hoping that everything is OK up there. I hated those ice storms, pretty to look at, ice on the power lines, but a b**ch to drive on......sounds like the whole township is shut down. Stay warm my friends, stay safe.

Hi there =D

In case you still haven't gotten through on the phone yet, the powers still out. Well, it's still out at my house anyway.

There's still ice everywhere, but most places are just now starting to get electricity back and there haven't been toooooo many problems.

But everything is okay here in Vernon.=)

Well, at 4:45pm Saturday evening SREC got our street going. 44hours of scrambling getting gas and kerosene. Our Explorer back window got smashed along with the hatch by a falling branch.
I hope this isn't a sign of things to come thins year.

I hope that you all are safe and warm, having lived in Vernon from 1961 to 87, I know about the winters, and 515 is a horror in bad weather, I remember coming off Rt. 23 one time and by the time I got in pass Hardyston, it was snowing to beat the band, started the climb down the hill at Highland Lakes and by the time I got to the A & P there was no snow.....I always said I lived in a Twilight Zone......btw, my Dad put in most of the septic tanks in the homes in Barry Lakes, when Barry Lakes was first developed. 1963.

Not one worker has been seen in my area. There are down lines, telephone poles, etc. within 50 yards of my home. The fallen trees in the road were taken care of by the homeowners with chainsaws, not the town or others who are "to be working in the area around the clock". At in-laws because it is freezing...that's how I'm online now. When Sussex rural was called they can't even give an estimate of time when things will be running again. Rumor is two weeks!!!!!!!!

Same problem here just over the border on Iron Mountain Road....gets the power line thru the park. Power out since Thursday 8 PM. Now Sunday noon. Clearly, Sussex Rural is ill equipped to handle the territory it covers. One solution would be to cut down wider swaths of trees around the power lines in the months when the weather allows better approaches.

-only person I saw was my mail carrier-unbeleivable-hooray for the USPS-thank you, mail carrier, for attempting to deliver my mail in this situation. I know you risk your life trying to deliver in that tin cup of a delivery truck-at any time a tree could have fallen and crushed you. you are the best.

We have't had power since Thursday night and didn't even see any So-sucks Rotten Electric people in out neighborhood until late last night.

We still don't have power & that lousy company isn't picking up the phone.

I hate to say it, but this might be the last straw, I think we're going to move, I can deal with everything else up here ,but any compitant power company would have had this power back on already, spending 4 days without power is ridiculous.

Maybe one day, we'll have a choice in utilities like we do for TV or phone & then they'll have to work for our business instead of treating us like sh*t.

There are parts of New Hampshire that are still without power, in Boston same thing. I can see a few hours, what Sussex Rural doing? sitting on their hands? I feel for all you good people, I don't ever remember going without power for more than 5/6 hours back in the day when I lived there.

Even here when we had our hurricanes we were without power for 2 days in the middle of a "heatwave". You could always get a generator, know Barry Lakes very well, knew the developer/politician extremely well, back in the 60's.

Good luck and I hope that you get your power back by suppertime.

Sussex Rural are a bunch of jerks. The lines that go from my meter to the poll are ripped out and they did not even bother putting them back up. WVT put them up temp for us but it's very dangerious. Sussex Rural has been called numerious times regarding how dangerious these wires are but they can't give me a time they will be out to rewire them. The phone company will not give me phone/digital tv or internet until it's fixed. Seems very strange to me that our electric company is not prepared for situations of this nature.

They're still extremely busy fixing who knows how many problems as bad and probably even worse than yours. It's not like they're just sitting around doing nothing...

This is really upsetting to me that some people can complain when mother nature hits. My husband and hundreds of others are risking their lives in states other than where they live to return power to you. My husband left Pennsylvania Friday morning and worked 34 hours for you, slept only a few and returned to work on Sunday morning at 4am and worked until 6pm today, Monday to only return to work at 4am Tuesday morning for YOU !! So many people are grateful for their commitment to their job but it is a shame that some are being so negative about the utility companies. Do you know how long it takes to string a whole line of electric wires? Do you realize what danger there is when they cut the fallen trees and wires snap back? Thank you to those that do appreciate the work that my husband and others do and I am ashamed of the few of you that can't go without your tv, microwave, etc. Maybe this is a reality check for all of us that we have gotten too high and mighty and need to come back to reality and be grateful for what we have.
thank you

I think residents frustration is not with individual line workers...whom have all been very kind and accomodating.
We are fed up with Sussex Rural's inability to restore power after 5 days in an area that has trecherous weather every winter. It is a RURAL area, hence Sussex Rural is our company. Alot of people couldn't stand another night without power and had to go to hotels to get a hot shower.[finally]. We are very grateful for the teams that assisted us from various states. However, to not get an answer on the phone from a utility company [in an emergency] is very frustrating.
