One dead after accident near PawPaw
Posted by wlpo on March 20, 2012

When youíre on the road, keep your eyes open for road construction and repair work. A man that was working on the shoulder of Interstate 39 in Lee County is dead after being hit by a truck.

Investigators say 55 year old Keith Jakel of Highland was doing shoulder maintenance near the PawPaw exit late Tuesday morning when he was hit by a truck driven by 76 year old Roger Miller of Grand Ridge.

Police say an arrow truck was directing traffic into the passing lane while blocking the right lane. Police say Miller saw the arrow truck but couldnít change lane and drove onto the shoulder hitting Jakel.

The Lee County Coronerís Office and Illinois State Police District 1 were investigating.

Keith was an awesome guy! I feel for his Dad and Brother. I feel so bad for Dottie and her sons. I know for a fact Keith loved her more than life. He would always come in and talk about how happy he was and how he finally found someone who made him feel good about himself. I always saw him riding around with her son and dog with a smile on his face. Keith would do anything for anyone. He will truly be missed in this world. RIP Brother
