Its simple to remedy this.......SLOW THE TRUCKS DOWN!!!!! I do plenty enough driving, over half the truckers on the roads cant even read the road signs, meaning they probably arent U.S. citizens yet, or they arent experienced drivers, only takes a few lessons to get behind the wheel nowadays.

Truck drivers used to be the knights of the road, now two weeks of driving school and they say you are ready to drive a truck, no way. Keep your eyes on the road and hang up your cell phones.

Do you think the recent change in Illinois law that allows tractor-trailers to go 65 mph instead of 55 mph has anything to do with all of the accidents in recent months?

The pickup truck that you all keep saying was hit by the second semi does not appear to have been hit by the semi.....the rear of the pickup truck has no damage. Truckers always get the blame.....

I don't know why the truckers are getting the blame......for the tragic accident involving the school busses last week....the TRUCK WAS HIT FROM BEHIND. All drivers should have to ride for a week with a truck driver and maybe they will realize that 85% of the accidents involving truckers are the fault of the regular cars and pickup drivers on the road. Don't blame the semi trucks all the time. Give big trucks a little room, respect and they will not stop on a dime. Without semi trucks we don't have any of our products and items we use everyday.

I see truckers all the time on their cell phones, hang up those phones and pay attention.

Time to cut the speed back to 55 for these semis. They drive too fast and weave in and out of lanes and constantly cutting other motorist off. Illinois should have never allowed them to go 65. How many deaths must occur before something is done?

I'm sorry, but TRUCKERS COUNT FOR A LARGE AMOUNT OF THESE WRECKS. For the most part they, along with SUV drivers, think they are the only ones on the road. SLOW DOWN, PAY ATTENTION, QUIT TEXTING and TALKING WHILE DRVIVG. GET RID OF ANYONE WHO CANNOT READ AND SPEAK, MY LANGUAGE (ENGLISH), NOW!!! End of story.

Why don't you check out the National Transportation Safety Board and then tell me who causes the most accidents. You my freind need to ride with a truck driver for about a week. Then you WILL change your mind. Do you ever see anyone who drives a car on a cell phone???? or texting??? I own a trucking conpany with 35 drivers....I have never had one that is not an American....try going a week without items that a trucker brings in....if you don't like semi trucks or their drivers don't use the goods they bring.

I drive for a living in the St Louis area , as a result I see a lot of poor driving in daily drivers & pro drivers alike . The real miracle is that this does'nt happen more often . Driving your vehicle should be Job # 1 , but sadly it isn't . My company constantly preaches , 7 second space at highway speeds & looking ahead 15 seconds , this is not always possible but if that is the ideal you are shooting for you will always be safer & more aware .

Get the Facts Jack. You have no idea what you are talking about. What do you think happens when you are driving and texting and talking on your cell phone? AND THEN, you do something stupid? How is that the fault of a truck?

Truckers get a bad rap. My brother is a trucker who is incredibly saftey minded. You would be surprised how many idiots he sees every day, it is ridiculous how people drive.
EVERYONE needs to slow down, keep their distance from the vehicle in front of them and PAY ATTENTION.
Remember, you are behind the wheel of a machine that ways around 3,000 lbs traveling up to 65 miles an hour with only the space of two sheets of writing paper worth of rubber on the road to control it.
SLOW DOWN PEOPLE!!!

slow down is not the only answer , speed doesn't kill , speed differential kills . if traffic is moving at 55 & you are doing 80 YOU'RE DANGEROUS SLOW DOWN . if traffic is doing 60 & you are doing 45 YOU'RE DANGEROUS , PICK UP THE PACE . if you are about to miss your exit GO ON TO THE NEXT EXIT , if you jam on the brakes & make a dive for that exit YOU'RE DANGEROUS GET A BUS PASS

instead of arguing about who's fault it is, why don't you pray for the families of the people that are losing their lives. Whether or not it was the semi's fault or not, EVERYONE Including cars need to pay more attention to the road and its surroundings.

The difference is that 60 and 45 can be legal speeds, so someone doing 45 is NOT breaking a law. Someone doing 80 in a 55 zone is totally illegal, and as such has NO "right of way."

Will stipulate that slower traffic must stay to the right, and would certainly expect people who are legally at the low end of the speed limit to use flashing lights.

Truckers, speeders, and slow drivers WILL ALWAYS BE THERE, no matter how much you complain or fantasize about new laws and regulations. Deal with it in REAL TIME NOW, because b1t-chang about conditions does nothing.

Jut returnned home to St. Louis from a 1000 mile drive to New Jersey.
I was shocked and sadden to hear of the bus accident with the band and now the two tractor trailer accidents on highway 70. The truck drivers need to slow down and not tailgate people while driving 70 miles an hour. There should be a national safe speed limit for truckers. You can not stop an 18 wheeler with a 40 foot trailer or two trailers in 25 feet going 70 miles an hour. That is how close some of these drivers drive behind people. I know they have to make a living and need to get to their detination, however, it is really dangerous the way some of them are driving.
They are suppose to be professional drivers, many are very aggressive and push the envelope while driving. I saw truck drivers weaving, tail gating, way over the speed limit, cutting people off, etc. I drove back via highway 64, less trucks than highway 70.
Even through the crowded big cities I drove through they were right on top of people.
Time to seriously do something about the agressive truck drivers and other aggressive regular drivers too.

People as a whole need to start paying attention to the road. Just this morning some jerk in a minivan not paying attention ran me off to the shoulder of the road....thank goodness there was a shoulder. I drive a BIG red Dodge truck you cant tell me he didnt see me.....no he was too busy trying to get something off the seat beside him.
