you should list some of the REALLY GOOD athletes from Highland. Look at some of the former girls that have always struggled to be noticed in this narrow minded town. If your not boys or in cheerleading or dance then your sport doesn't mean anything. Cindy Hustedde, Lisa Zobrist, Teffy Weiss, Sharon Kampwerth, Carol Kampwerth just to name a few. If they could only have had Mr. Elledge for a coach instead of that pussy Richie Kantner, we would have had a stae championship team. We had a bunch of girls that were a team with no one really outstanding but everyone very talented. I'm sure every parent that was involved with this group of girls thinks their child was the best but I can guarentee you that they were all above normal as talent goes. The team this year comes a close second to the team back in the late 80's. You young people don't remember it because back then no one went to the games except for the parents. No support at all for the girls programs.

Im glad someone is recognizing the females here. Not only in track, soccer, softball and basketball....but for cheer and dance too. Cheer still has not been recognized as a sport, while dance has. These girls work extremely hard all year round and deserve a little respect.

cheerleading and dance are not sports...they are hobbies. People who collect stamps work hard all year round too!

How can anyone think that Hawkins and Hooker are or ever were good coaches?? I have sat through a lot of sporting events and can only say that Hawkins got lucky with the state team he had. He had a group of outstanding young men to work with. I could have coached them and won state that year and by no means is that bragging on my part. I am not coaching material and do not claim to be. This was an insult to him. Hawkins is a control freak that thinks of himself as a god and let me tell you...God would not treat people the way he does.

Hooker got lucky with coaching Billy Greenwald. All he had to do was throw the ball out there and the group of boys that played at that time were so well coached in the Quarterback club that it did not take much to be a winner. They were that talented. Sure Billy was the star but he could have never been as good without the rest of the team and the front line blocking for him.

First off I can tell you were not an athlete at HHS. Even if you do not like hawkins you respect him. He is one person I can say develops highlands kids into young men. He is a great role model not to mention the smartest man I know. He's one of the winningest baseball coach in illinois high-school history so he's doing something right. He was also a great defensive coordinator and an amazing hockey coach. You are a hater that's all. Lets not forget he's a great teacher to.

Hooker was elected to the illinois high-school football, coaches hall of fame. He has over a 100 victories as a head coach. He had a playoff team almost every year, especially in class 5 A. He never watered down his schedule, he always played tough oppenets. He was the last old school coach in the area. He.finished his last season with a great 10-2 team with am elite 8 appearance. Had an all state runningback who he built around when everybody else said still was to little to get the job done. He produced all state qb in delaney and wr in Matt Lewis and Louis staley. Most of all he had the respect of his players. All of us would run through a wall for him without any questions. Again you are a hater goodsir. For the past.20years hooker and hawkins have influenced generations of kids. They are great teachers, coaches, overall great men.

Highland athletics are on par with other schools of similar size. Some sports are more successful than others. It's all cyclical.

What is it with you and assuming that people were not athletes in high school, leave them out of you arrogant kiss-a** rantings. Get off this site if your going to assume. Go go the keg and try this.

You are by far one of the dumbest people ever for this comment. Every year hawkins and hooker coached they had winning seasons. Them 2 alone were the best football coaches ever, who cares about the championships year in and year out us players loved every single min of there coaching, and would die for both coaches that is how much respect they put into us as young men. Never in your life disrespect 2 of the greatest people in many of highland athletics life, u obviously never got the privilege to play for him or your children weren't good enough to play for them.

I know you werent an athlete cuz if you were you would respect hooker and hawkins. I def know u didn't play football because of your lack of knowledge in highlands football history. Further more hawkins and hookers number alone show that there coaching abilities are well beyond anybody else. Eden your prolly one of those parents who's kid road the bench and you thought he was an all star. Or.chances are you sat the pine yourself. Hookers in the ihsa hall of fame and hawkins is soon to follow. So if they think these coaches.are good enough for that then your lil opinion I guess really doesn't matter. I'm curious as to wat your athletic resume has on it, I'm almost positive when all said and done you will find yourself staring at a blank page..

Bulldog4life you said it right when you said the basketball coach is a cluster *&%^! I have been following Highland sports for quite some time and I would have a hard time coming up with a worse coach I have witnessed. That man has a team this year with talent oozing from their pores and he does not have a CLUE what to do with them. He can't even run an offensive play! He has no plays that mean a damn thing to that team. None of the kids respect him and none of the parents respect him, but once again no one does anything about it because in Highland that means that your kid would pay the consequences. Sad, I have followed other schools over the years too, and there is trouble everywhere, but this is just a joke to the school system. I guess maybe someone needs to go behind his back and get him fired like he did to his friend Rustio. Go Bulldogs - lets see him screw this season up to. I will keep going to the games I can (very few home this year) and keep watching the same shit - talent going to waste. Seems like at some point either a parent, player, or administrator would step up and clean up their program.

You don't know how accurate your statement was.
