Outside of odorizzi none of the people were "Great" athletes. This is a town of 10,000 ppl so what seems great to us might not be so if you look at the whole picture. Some of the ppl you named weren't even the best players on their teams. Look at some athletes from around the country and you will see real talent. Yes these kids had skill for a small little country town but compared to other athletes around the country they get shit on.

Highlandalumni. U fail epicily. U obviously know nothing of highlands athletics. First off Jake gifford and dan are the only ones who should be recgonized. The rest r worthless. Lance!? Ha! Also there's been others to break 50. Justin zoberist did not too long ago. And No strack doesn't have the two mile. Gary, hempen, bickline? R u on crack with the spellmyers? Lance atleast had natural talent he just was lazy and worthless. He was capable of a lot more. Those other guys are no stand outs. They were alright but no where near stand outs. U can thank Jake and only Jake for the 08 baseball championship. Don't post something like this when u obviously know nothing of highland athletics.
so you know

Think gifford went undefeated in 08. Still holds the school record and was an all state runningback on one of highlands best teams enough said. Dan has one mile and 800 record. Zobrist ran a 49.9 once in a relay thats not an open 400. Still was a 3 time confrence and county champ as well in the 400 Strack is only other male athlete to come close to that.

watever,

i agreed that most of the athletes were pretty good, i made that in a previous post. I didn't agree with all of them. Highland has had some good athletes, but i was just agreeing with "so you know" that some of the players weren't the best on their teams.

JR Potthast is the best Pitching instructor I know in the entire midwest. Wray Ripplemeyer, retired majior league pitching (Phillies) coach highly recomended him to me. My son owes his entire baseball carear to him. As a division one college pitcher, my son went from dead last on the team to by far the very best pitcher on the team. My son is now a majior league pitcher. When he has pitching problems he calls Mr. Potthast, not the pitching coach. Mr. potthast teaches things about ball "rotation" that others do not understand or have the ability to teach.

note to lefty of Edwardsvill.
Yes JR Potthast is the best Pitching instructor in the entire mid-west area. He was recomended to me by former major leage pitching coach Ray Ripplemeyer. My son went from being at the bottom of a division One college pitching staf to the very best on the team, becase of Mr. Potthast's pitching instruction. His velosity improved by 8 mph. and he learned to pitch with contoled movement. My son is now a major league pitcher. He still calls Mr. Potthast several times a weak for help. My son owes his entire career to Mr. Potthast. Hope this helps

I won a checkers tournament in fourth grade, even got a trophy. Not many fourth graders could do that kind of thing. My point being, who gives a shit about an irrelevant trophy or record. Some people had better shit to do than run laps and play catch for 168 hours a week. If anything we should recognize those who became something because of an education, not because they could play a game slightly better than the majority.
Props to Odorizzi, he led his team to a state championship and pursued his passion for sports as a career. What are the rest of those people doing? Most likely something related to education, or a skilled craft and probably not related to their sports legacy.

yes J.R. Potthast is the pitching instructor I know of anywhere. I would never have gotten drafted if it were not for him.

Do you always sound like a fool or just when you write? You proved my point, you were an athlete who was above average and now that is irrelevant and you're unemployed, but im sure you probably still run a solid 40.

The one sounding like the fool is you, did you ever live in Highland, I would like to see you play baseball, basketball, hockey, football, any sport because who knows you could be a fat slob heck at least I still run everyday, and maybe I am unemployed but my family overall is doing very well, so burn westboro church shut up and by the way what is with your nickname. If you did not live in Highland you have no room to talk.
