My wife and I are disgusted with two things! The used personal product that my wife's heel pierced while visting the square and me having to explain to my grandson was only a clear balloon led over from a recent festival and the poor people " hanging out smoking " what I can only assume are cigarettes !!!! I will be on the phone first thing Monday morning with the parks dept!!!

Define poor people. My sister in law brings her son to ride his bike around there when it's nice

I would agree with wow. Seems like you may just be arrogant. Its rather cold to have your grandson on the square when there is no more Christmas decor up

your rhetoric is extremely arrogent waldo. im so sorry you are forced to share a park with the people who dont have as much money as you. and im sorry the square isnt large enough for you to not get offended by seeing some people sit and smoke cigarettes.

How can they be poor? The state provides free food, healthcare, and housing for them. Plus a nice tax refund for not working and having kids. They are problaby rich if anything.

Sorry I have to correct you on something, you do not get a hefty return if you do not work. You have to make something in order to get something. If you do not work or receive unemployment you don't get jack on a return at all. So yes the government craps on the people who draw unemployment, the people who worked for that insurance. Everybody pays somehow, even the less fortunate.

WRONG!!!! All they have to do is put down a minumum of 3k in income per year that they can say they were "babysitting" or "washing cars" you dont have to verify the income for the EITC tax credit of up to $14,000.00 !!! if you have kids, etc...

So, nice try defending the welfare state we call the USA.

we all know, if you have been up to the square at any time, what Mr. Korte is talking about. The trash that hangs up there is the same type of trash that has been up there every year for as long as i can remember. They are the kids who, according to them, have nothing to do in this town. When I take my kids up there to see the fountain I have to look to make sure the trash isn't there before getting out of the car. It is a public area and as long as they are not breaking laws of course they have the right to be there but it sure does make what should be a very nice area for normal residents very unusable at most times.

Uhhh, I'm sorry but yes you do have to verify income for the EITC. And the most EIC you can get this yr is around 5-6 grand for only 3 or more children. Earned Income Credit is exactly what is says, "Earned Income". And it doesn't matter what minimum you make, they can make less than 100 and still qualify for earned income. The only difference with that is they can choose to file or not if they made less than 600 in the whole yr. If they made more then 600 then they have to file.

You DO NOT have to verify income. How do you verify 3k of babysitting??? Do you send in a videotape of yourself doing the work???

How the hell do you justify getting back MORE money in a refund than you paid in in taxes??? Please explain this to me and all the other taxpayers.

Hopefully this November we can start putting an end to this insanity.

I'm poor trashy and I smoke I will keep it away from the sqaure and hang out with all my trashyness in the public area between glik park and korte rec center maybe even spend a day with used balloons to disperse and a whole pack of pall malls to burn in the pretty gazebo. I'm surprised with my 3rd grade education that I was able to spell gazebo.

Its pretty pathetic that the so-called square kids have been on the hot seat now for years and years... Its a generational thing, old ones leave and new ones come its just how it goes and how it always has been as long as i can remember... I used to be a square kid and i take offense to the language being used to describe these children as trashy and etc, because some of us arent trash. Common knowledge is the fact that not every child wants to play sports, not every child wants the same things that your children might want OR maybe it boils down to the simple fact that these children were born into families that didnt have alot of money to where their parents couldnt afford extracirricular activites? Logically if u were brought up in an environment such as this you would try and find something else to do, or maybe they just got caught up with the wrong crowd, but in all its a phase that some kids will cross paths with something like this and others wont , youll find similar issues like this one anywhere you live. We are the outcasts, potheads, criminals,di fferent, trashy or whatever else you want to call us, but all in all everyone grows up and moves on to bigger better things. To wrap this up, just remember your past dont define you its who you are when you get older is what defines the rest of your life and how you choose to live it because the kids who are hanging up there now are still searching for who they truly are just like all the other kids there age are.

For me it's not the kids being up there; for me it's the vulgar language when my kids are nearby. It's the way they (even adults) just throw their cigarette butts on the ground. Walking on top of the mural and being in the fountain is just not the proper way to respect the property for all to enjoy and I don't want my kids to see that. I love seeing lots of people up there, just use it in a way that everyone can enjoy it.....

i agree i have no problem with them hanging out there but kids and adults alike should watch their languge and not trash the area. I have the same issues with the drunks that walk through there at night from the local bars and either throw or leave beer bottles around there too. I don't care that they walk through or that they are drinking while they do it (I have done that myself) but don't break beer bottles or leave them sitting around for my child to possibly step on glass and to make the area look horrible. Treat the property as you SHOULD treat your own property.
