I am a simple college student who feels like I have no direction. All of my friends seem to know exactly what they want to do. How do I decide which direction to study in if I really have no idea. My likes are all over the board. I just don't want to know how people REALLY find their path.

have you tried to talk to a couselor on campus about this dilemma? if there is a career counsor on campus i would suggest talking to them if not a campus counselor should have the apprpriate knowledge to help you. different tests can be given to you to help gear u in the right direction on whi h career path to take such as interest inventories. just know that while your in college and u r an undergrad that it is ok to not know what u want to do there are numerous people probably on your campus that dont know what they want to do yet either but what is important is to ge your general requidements out of the way while your still undecided. i hope this helped you :)

College counselors never helped me. They don't have a clue what they're doing. I picked my direction by changing my major to a subject containing the classes I was best at, since most people enjoy doing what they're good at. Seems to have worked. I enjoy my job now.

I did the same but still not passionate about my job. Sure it's a good job but it's a job not what I want my career in. Advisors didn't help me one bit! Mid 30's and still searching for what I wanna do.

Here's what I'm gonna tell my kids (currently almost teenagers):
1) Join the military, get paid to see the world. They will then pay your way to go to college on the GI bill. It will give you the opportunity to grow up, see places you will probably never otherwise see and buy you time to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life.
Or 2) Go to SWIC and get a certificate in something to put you on a career path. If you decide that's not for you, you are not out a whole lot. A lot of programs are less than a year. They also have an associates degree program for general studies. Many employers like to see that you have some sort of college degree, they don't care in what as long as you have something more than a high school diploma since those are hardly worth the paper they're printed on anymore. Then in a few years, if you decide on a specific career path, you'll have all your gen ed classes knocked out...no matter what you go for, they all require pretty much all the same english, math and social science courses. So it's not money wasted and those courses can be transferred to a university.
Good luck in what you decide to do

was not asking for rude obnoxious comments I was just trying to help an individual out. I am currently enrolled in a masters program for counseling and I know that in the past career counseling seems to be non-exsistent, but it is on the rise, which is a good thing especially for individuals who do not know which direction to go in life or if someone were to lose a job that they have held for numerous years and don't know where to turn. these inventories that are out there can be very helpful in sparking your career interests and show you what you are good at and etc to make it easier for you to examine rather then looking at every single career opportunity because that can get very overwhelming. sorry that people want to be obnoxious when I was simply trying to help someone with an issue that they were struggling with and give them a resource... can can and snorlax hunter... i am refering to these two.
