I knew Sammy Isner well....I knew Charles Swanifuss (sic) too. I never knew that Sammy actually married Callie Blaine but I do know that he used her as a front to open the Pink Pussycat (being a convicted felon, Sammie could not own a liquor license). While preparing to open the PPC, he re-habed apartment buildings (well, he didnt actually do the work because he hated dirt) I helped him with the rehab work and was there when he opened the PPC, in fact, I helped with some of the remodeling. He bought an antique store to front his "other" business.....
You are right about this...He married Callie in 1968 she told him she was dying and yes he couldn't get a license in his name...Finally someone who knows something...

I am a retired Cincy Det. and don't know a lot about what went on in Newport back in the day.
However I was directly involved in a couple of cases of police misconduct by Newport cops. In the mid 1980s the Newport cops were making less than $ 10,000. That was a long time ago, but you couldn't live on a salary that low, even back then.
There is some very interesting posts and I enjoyed reading all of them. I remember reading about all of it back in the day and thought it was fascinating that there was so much going on so close to conservative Cincinnati.

word on the streets is "the King Of Shadows" has returned to Newport and the cops are getting worried. the crime rate has gone down at an insane pace. the police commishiner and the mayor have created a hush hush taskforce and more than a few heavy drug dealers have dissapeared along with their drugs ,cash (ahem), and weapons... It's all the same just like in the 40's, the 60's, and the 80's...big black coat the whole bit...I thought it was bullshit to till I saw him land in the middle of Monmoth street...two story's straight down and he walked away dissapeering behind Pepper Pod...This is the same guy...he's got to be eighty years old but he looks the same...they say they've got a photo of him on the original b+w photo of the newport police department and for a while Jim Lyles of the Covington SWAT Team I know was a suspect because he had access to a working Tommy Gun. crazy shit...If it's true...no criminal is safe to walk the streets.
