I hope the County declines the city's counter offer, the employees of ACDPS are in their 4th year without raises, have given up specialized tech team training and pay. Lost their educational incentive reimbursements and given up some of this years holiday pay to assist with the counties budget, just to name a few of the concessions. In the 4 years since I have left the HSFD, they have continued to hire additional personnel, and promote employees. If you do not have the tax base why have you extended yourself to such an extent? I live in High Springs and I am a County Firefighter, I am sick of people comparing apples to apples. For basic fire services High Springs is outstanding, well prepared and staffed. For emergency medical calls, which even the city commissioners acknowledge is the majority of calls (more than 80%). Hsfd is only basic life support. To insult the citizens and liken it to apples to apples is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. The city needs a reality check, I sincerely hope the County tells them to go jump in the river, we will be more than happy to continue serving the citizens of High Springs, who are Alachua county residents!
