Went to the local Pizza Hut this evening for pizza and one person was in the restaurant smoking one cigarette after another. There were fifteen couples in the restaurant who had to smell the cigarette smoke while they tried to eat their meal. The restaurant has smoking on one side and nonsmoking on the other side of the dining room with no divider in between. The cigarette smoke was extremely strong. I will be glad when the smoking ban goes into effect so a nonsmoker can eat their meal without having to smell the cigarette smoke. Nonsmokers have rights too!

Hey annonymous, I am glad you won't be eating out anymore. I am tired of getting all dressed up and then having to come home and take a shower because I smell like cigarette smoke. Thanks to my allergies I have to limit myself from certain restaurants because smokers don't have the decency to think of those that don't smoke. When you smoke you smell like SH** and make everybody around you smell like SH**. I agree with Steve, where is our right to breath fresh air. Just because you accept the risk of getting cancer doesn't mean we do. Learn to have some respect.

I understand YOU hate cigarette smoke but it is not YOUR business to decide another person's preferred working environment. SEPARATE smoking AND nonsmoking establishments are the PERFECT compromise, whether you think so or not.

I would respect you and NOT smoke in your presence ;-)

As a smoker I think that having a smoking section under the same roof does not alleviate a nonsmoker's concern to avoid exposure.

I stand firm on having separate establishments to accommodate BOTH groups, though.

Though I am against a ban, I can sympathize with you regarding 1) your aversion to SHS, 2) not signing onto having your clothes smell like you have been smoking, and 3)and most important; your allergies.

Please understand the importance of retaining our freedom of choice, though. If establihments can retain the freedom to choose their venue, we, the people, can embrace and cherish our freedom to choose our individual freedom to choose our preferred environment.

"FRESH" air is really a pipe dream (no pun intended) when there are so many other toxic airborne threats.

You sound like someone who has some respect of others. The problem is a lot of smokers do not respect the people who do not smoke. I have gone out to eat with someone who decided to light up and I asked them to please not smoke. I was told if I don't like it leave. If more people Respected others rights we could do away with a lot of laws on the book

There is a simple solution to all of this!

If smokers embrace electronic cigarettes, then the issue of smoking bans will be mute. There is no second-hand smoke, no odor, no carcinogens, no CO2, and no mess like ashes, butts, etc. from electronic cigarettes. If smokers of tobacco cigarettes would switch their habit to a non-tobacco electronic cigarette, we would have no further need to further infringe on the personal freedoms of any one group. Whether you are a smoker, or a non-smoker, you should learn more about this technology.

If you are smoker, consider it as an option. You won't be inhaling all the chemicals and carcinogens that you currently do from your tobacco cigarette.

If you are a non-smoker, learn about the technology, and pass the information on to your friends who are smokers. The electronic cigarette is a win-win in so many ways.

You can learn all about this technology including the contents of electronic cigarette vapor and other information such as scientific studies fully documented at my informational website, http://www.NoTobacco.net/Blog

Thank you.

To be honest, Steve, I was clueless up until I entered these forums. I didn't understand the "problem". But, after reading posts from people who are NOT antis but expressed their preference to NOT be subjected, a light bulb went on and I realized that it WAS a big deal. i only want to be able to enjoy my "off" time without being considered a scond-class citizen. To go out and not have to worry if my drink was spiked while I was out having a smoke.

As long as smokers can have a choice of places to slough off the work week, I think we would NOT have these forums to vent on.

Thank you for your kind words. they do not go unappreciated by THIS smoker ;-).

Thank you.
I have been curious to buy the E-cigs but I would not need them if I could "choose" my preferred environment.

I may still try them because I enjoy the company of some people who are nonsmoker. We can "break break" AND enjoy the company of each other ;-)

I used to smoke cigars. Cancer changed that. I never understood how cigarette smokers could complain about people smoking cigars. There could be 25 people smoking cigarettes in a bar, but if I lit a cigar, people were complaing before my match was out......I long for the days for a smoke free restaurant.

I was at two different restaurants in Thomasville with my parents and my 3 year old recently and when I asked for a table as far away from the smoking section as possible, you would have thought I had asked for a pigs head on a platter judging by the way the people in the smoking section looked at me.

I want my food to taste how is should, not like a Marlboro.....smoke free restaurants should be a given.

I never complained about people smoking cigars but, you must admit, they do have a pungent smell. To each his own. ;-)

The best solutiom for both parties would be for everyone to just eat their meal, wait until you are outside to smoke or in the privacy of your vehicle. The resturant should be neutral ground for ALL. You have to remember this is a public place, NOT your own home!..Show some respect for others.

I hope the patio fix-up is something that will be nice for outdoor seating as opposed to just SOMEthing to salvage patronage from smokers.

A growing number of companies are taking approaches to smoking cessation products that short-circuit addiction, and I believe addiction is the only insurmountable hurdle to complete federal proscription of smoking--and not just public smoking, but pretty much all smoking outside the context of Native American ceremonies.

The federal government won't be able to outlaw it on reservations, I guess, and there will probably be some efforts to keep smoking flourishing in "Indian Casinos", but I doubt that such venues will sustain the practice much after smoking fades from the rest of the nation.

Within a decade, I think the addiction problem will be beaten, smoking will be illegal or have become too uncommon to be an issue any more, and few people will mind.

Nice outdoor seating will be appreciated for its own sake.

Don't bother wasting money on patios. They will be back for the patios later. Page seven of the tobacco control handbook instructions are to ban patio smoking AFTER business owners spent thousands of dollars to build them for their smoking customers. This clearly shows that these people have ABSOLUTLY NO CONCERN for local businesses. It's the "inside-out" provision on page seven. Once these people find gullible lawmakers and get a foot in the door, there's no stopping them. You will see them walk past clearly posted "smoking allowed on patio" signs only to holler and scream and disrupt an otherwise peaceful gathereing of smoking friends. Have your camcorders ready. You may need to CTRL and scroll to read their handbook.

http://www.no-smoke.org/pdf/CIA_Fundamentals....

Notice that there's no mention of patios in the model "smoking ban for dummies" on page eight. They didn't want that to be seen when the bans were first brought up.http://www.no-smoke.org/doc ument.php?id=229
