Because they think of just the rich and not the poor. Poor people need help to.

Strib Boynton is partially responsible for a public payout of more than 500,000 dollars to two women that Jesse Tilton at ElectriCities harrassed. When will we get rid of CEOs that are misbehaving?

Jesse Tilton and Sam Noble write to Dole Hellooooo can Jesse Tilttn, the infamous CEO of ElectriCities read? I honestly thought Sam Noble, the board chair from Tarboro was smarter, but I guess not. Climate change is going to pass Congress regardless of what Tilton and Noble write to the paper and Sen. Dole. Every presidential candidate is on the bandwagon and 3/4 of Congress is - it is the "political place to be". Climate change has a minimal effect on electric rates in electric cities in NC - Jesse Tilton's miss on the refinance of the $3 billion eastern debt is a much bigger issue. That combined with his reckless spending will have a MUCH bigger effect. How convenient to try to use the $100,000 lobbyist Rob Talley to move the issue to Sen Dole instead of where it belongs --- with Tilton. Jesse Tilton is the cause of high rates,a s a result of total financial incompetence. He is trying to pin it on Al Conyers but that is a joke. The buck stops .... with TILTON. Tilton needs to read the paper and deal with climate change and better yet own up to his completely screwed up miss on the refinance and quit trying to blame Dole. Brian Nick and the Dole staff are too smart for that to happen. It makes us all look stupid. I, for one, want an entity screwing up our rates to be accountable and look respectable. This is ridiculous. |

Power costs likely to rise By E.A. Seagraves
Staff Writer Sunday, Mar. 30, 2008 3:00 am High Point residents could see their electric bills climb in the next few years. Rising fuels costs are to blame for an increase expected later this year. And a new state law will bring additional increases in the coming years. Because of a 2007 state mandate, High Point and ElectriCities, an agency that manages the power supply for 19 municipalities, including High Point, need to incorporate renewable energy sources into the city's power usage. The state is requiring co-ops and municipal power companies to meet a 10 percent minimum requirement of renewable energy usage by 2018. Electric companies, such as Duke Energy, must meet a 12.5 percent minimum. The deadline is 2018. The percentages must be met in increments, with a 3 percent minimum for co-ops and municipalities in 2012. But residents shouldn't worry too much about their bills increasing drastically. There's a financial cap on how much electric companies can pass on to their customers. Capped in increments, the maximum cost passed on to residential consumers would be $34 annually, or $3 a month, by 2015. Caps in 2015 for commercial customers would be $150 a year and for industrial customers at $1,000 a year. A 2 percent rate increase has already been proposed and was to be voted on Friday. Steve Shelton, senior vice president of ElectriCities, noted that all electric companies are experiencing increases because of rising costs. ElectriCities has larger expenses from construction of facilities and fuel. The budget is actually increasing 2.5 percent, but with half a percent coming from surplus energy sales, customers should only see a 2 percent increase. Jesse Tilton, ElectriCities CEO, said the federal government is also considering a law that would require a 15 percent minimum of renewable energy. There are three ways for electric companies to comply with the law: build a renewable energy facility, reduce consumption or buy renewable energy credits from other energy facilities. Renewable energy sources could be wind, water, solar or bio waste. ElectriCities will investigate ways to help the city meet the new regulations. The company is looking for the least costly sources, Shelton said. ----Listen folks, This is a hoot. The rates are increasing, not onl due to new laws, but due to excess and irresponsible spending. The poor lobbyists on fat cat contracts could not get anything done for the cities because Tilton is the CEO. And he threw in the towel last year. Ask legislators about an exception that was at play until Tilton paraded in with his inept lobbyists and said ok we will be part of it. His staff changes led to this junk which he know blames on others and asks High Point to lobby on when they did before but he screwed it up. Don't even get me started on his bad refinance deal. |

Jesse Tilton wants a territory agreement among the city, Duke Energy and co-op EnergyUnited. The co-op wants the rights to expand in areas outside of High Point's city limits, limiting the city's right to expand its service to newer areas.
Tilton asked city officials to lobby state legislatures to allow the city to expand its municipal power supply as it grows and annexes new property. NO TO ANNEXATION. Co-ops offer better service and better rates and NO CEO MISMANAGEMENT |
