For What It Is Worth

Lexington, MO

I know this will fall deaf on some ears but please let's have a serious discussion about the city administrator idea.. I understand they want to cut the police and street dept. to pay an OVERPAID city adm. I personally believe a town this size does not need a mayor and adm.I pay taxes for potection and at least halfway decent streets. Should this proposed adm have to give a plan of action that is a plan to help our town? We are not talking about a nickel and dime salary. The mayor should have been out all of his elected time recruiting new business/factories in our community. We have lost so much of our population and our schools are declining in status at an alarming rate. We need business and jobs here. So many are leaving Lexington and more will go. And I know we have beat this horse to death but WHY did we change the trash service?? Lower rating and more money..WHY did we not get to vote on this? Please enlighten me anyway you can as I have lived here for years but am one of the ones thinking of moving on..

Lexington always picks the wrong person for City Administrator.

1) Joe McReynolds, ca. 1987, gets into fight with City Marshal;

2) Jamie Bowden, ca. 1992, gets involved in "felonious conspiracy" to take over the private water company;

3) Abie Tempel, ca. 1994, covers up embezzlement of city funds by the City Collector;

4) Don Borgman, ca. 2008, involved in illegal immigrant hiring with his business partner in a vineyard.

There's much more, but you get the picture.

Nothing wrong with the concept of city administrator per se. You have to find the right person, however, and City Council has to be willing to hire them. Back in '92 when I served on City Council and we were looking for Bowden's replacement after he resigned, we had two experienced and very intelligent candidates, and we also had Abie Tempel, who was Mayor Dickmeyer's crony. We all know who got hired and what a f***ing joke it was until she was canned in '98.

And Borgman was even worse.

I think Lexington's elected officials have been too stupid to do what's right, so the town probably is better off without hiring the wrong person over and over.

we have no money. the few decent streets we have were taken care of by private citizens. we bought a water plant that has not had any maintenance for 20+ years. and a councilman has the nerve to say "compared to other cities are utilities are reasonable." an 80 dollar water-sewer-trash bill is absolutely not acceptable.STOP spending money!! city administrator is not needed and we cant afford it. 84 rules!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. Im tired of the cityspending money they don't have. Our cutting areas that we need. I thought one of the articles said they could cut funding in the capital improvements such as Street repairs etc. Um isn't that why we had a half cent sales tax increase before was to fix the streets that are still shitty. And now they want to do another half cent increase. No! How about fixing things in this town first. How about you use the 70, 000 u have set aside to fix sidewalks in this town. Let's be realistic.. And are there even any candidates from Lexington who applied.

I can't say whether or not anyone now in Lexington would make a good city administrator, because I've been away so long, but even if there are qualified candidates it's very unlikely they would want to get involved long-term in the circus which has always been Lexington City Hall.

I do not believe it would be prudent to hire a city admin guy or gal right now. could probably form a committee for free (include people with common sense and IDEAS) and brainstorm this thing out.

Lexington needs to do 5 things:

--Continue to FIX the schools
--Spur economic development
--Clean up blight
--Attract new buisnesses
--Figure out a way to make sure the Hospital get s built or lose it to higginsville

Higginsville has no intention of getting hospital. I know this for a fact. The nut job mayor of Lexington is just trying so hard to get it done. Mayor Nut Job Brown will lie, cheat and do whatever it takes to get it done and get his dumb looking picture and plaque on the new hospital wall. That is the only thing the old SOB would ever have accomplished in his loser lifetime.

Oh by the way thanks to you and the council for them beautiful trash cans. Guess you could say they look real trashy. You should all be so proud.

The water well yall F-----D that up too. We pay a fortune for water that tastes so bad, we cant even drink it. I pay 100.00 dollar water bill and have to spend another 50.00 on bottled water. WTF? The pressure is so bad my 50 year old prostate shoots a harder stream.

This is Lexington ass wipes. We missed the boat years ago. This is now a closet community. Keep raising our taxes for your stupid ideas. I know several people including myself that would leave this shithole town tomorrow. The problem is nobody wants to buy our houses so we can move on. I work in Kansas City and when people ask me if I am really from Lexington I say yes and have been asked WHY? Why would you drive two hours a day for that shithole?

We need money spent improving on things we have now. Give up the dream of anything wanting to come here aint happening. Mayor Brown and the current council sure aint the rocket scientist they think they are to make any positive change for Lexington.

Arts and Antiques strong demand I am sure in this current economy. WTF? LMAO I am done with my rant for now,could go on all night but have to go to bed. I have to drive to the city in the morning for my job to help pay my part for you guys stupitity.

You are joking. Mark Wallace and the Sewer Dept.head Mike something needs to learn how to do their jobs,they both have to hire outside contracters to do their jobs.Mark Wallace wanted Eric woodward fired from the very beginning.so You know the Citys little clique Rick Thomas had to put His 2 cents in and they managed to get Eric fired.Eric should have not ever been fired.Just goes to show People how the City feels about the special needs Employees.Lexington needs to make a clean sweep of the Mayor and councel and Dept heads and get rid of their little clique.

I love all the letters to the editor in the paper lately bc everyone of them say the same... why do we need one? Why was their a survey even placed in paper if according to our wonderful city councilmen randy small stated that "at least a quarter of registered voters in the city would be needed before the council should pay attention to the results". Not everyone gets a lexington paper so alot of people probably werent aware but out of the 115 surveys that were turned in 66 said no to the admin. 27 said yes and 22 were invalid. I think thats pretty good. Why mot put it to a vote for the taxpayers it is our money that your spending.. shouldnt we have a say where it is allocated?? And the council probably had no intentions in considering the thoughts of the general public so why waste our time and yours.. where does the money come from that is going to be spent for the two potential candidates? The whole thing is ridiculous.

We had one good administrator but Mayor Brown ran him out of town. What is wrong with you people, if you cannot bring yourself to vote the Mayor out of office, quit complaining.
