I found a Tarantula in my garage today. Does anyone know if they are common around here?

Yes they are. I moved here from Kansas in 1999 and saw one climbing on the side of my house, and I about had a stroke, lol. If you have lived here long, I am surprised you haven't seen one before. You can see them crossing roads too when they are migrating. I think the AR Game & Fish Website might have info on them, not positive. From what I have been told, they are harmless.

They are harmless and are not poisonous unless you are allergic to it like a person could be to a bee sting. There is also a spider here called a wolf spider that looks very similar to a Tarantula. They are also harmless.

Back in the early 90's I saw a swarm of them cross a parking lot one night at West Hill Apartments. It was a freaky sight. Looked like about 20 or so.

OMG! Glad I came across this forum. I'm terrified of spiders. No I may never visit this town again....

They will be in just about EVERY southern state. Better move to Canada. |

Where are they usually found? I'm terrified of spiders and have never seen a tarantula except on tv or at a zoo. I've lived here for a year and thank god haven't had any encounters with one.I see alot of grandaddy longlegs around though. Those things are freaky!

I read at one time that somtimes those spiders come here in crates of bananas. I used to see them somtimes in Texas when I was driving at night, they would be crossing the road, a hell of alot of them at one time, They would make a popping sound as I ran over them. |

Ew. Gag! I swear spiders are the freakiest things. I have nightmares about them.

Ew! I know. Let me tell you a story. Me and my BF were walking down Josh Parks trail, i think it's called, this past summer and as we got deeper in the more spiders i saw. It seemed like i was getting attacked by these horrible little creatures! Every where i looked! Needless to say, I got the hell outta there! And i haven't been back. I've never seen anything like it. Never.
