Who remembers the White Brick Inn on Hempstead Turnpike?
I lived on the street behind it from 1957 to 1970. I can remember hearing the rock and roll music every weekend and going in through the double swinging saloon doors to a large dance floor.
I am hoping someone might know if there are any books or articles on the history and demise of this structure. I was told once it was a stagecoach stop in the old days. Any one with any information would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any current info, but i went there quite a bit sometime around 1963, or '64. The bouncers would pat you down as you came in. I'm not sure, but I think that there is a bank there now. I'll look next time I pass it.

Thanks for the reply, Bob. I think the Chase Bank was a hamburger joint when we left. The building to the left, set back from the street, is where the WBI was. Thanks to Google maps.

Rick..I googled White Brick Inn, West Hempstead and found a site .."Teenage night club (White Brick Inn, W. Hempstead, LI".

I am kind of computer illiterate so I can't go to far with it, but it says that it has 12 photos. Maybe,it'll be helpful.

I went there many times while in high school and even my first year of college. The bands were pretty good and they were even featured in the Sunday Parade Magazine. I saw Johnny Rivers there before he became Johnny Rivers, a few of what we now call oldies groups. They were once an adult night club that lost their license in the late 50'5 or early 60's. The owners had contacts so they became a teen club. It served a fast gorwing need for a place that kids could go and enjoy music and dance. The fun was that they served virgin versions of many of the drinks you could find in a bar. Yes, you may have been patted down to check for weapons and smuggled liquor. The girls often had to open their purses for the bouncers. It was a great place to spend a Friday or Saturday night.

Hey Phil,
If you ever parked on the street behind the Inn with your girlfriend and heard a guy yelling out the window, that was my dad.

I went there 1963...Great place. I saw "The Exciters" there who introduced what was to be their hit "Doo Wah Diddy" I never heard another thing about it until Manfred Mann released it. Always had a great crowd. Met some girls from Wantagh...kept in touch awhile with them.
