The grandmother did NOTHING to protect them and now we are supposed to feel bad!! 10 years have gone by and what have they done to help them? These poor boys had to watch the unthinkable and now have to live with that for the rest of their lives!!!!! What a POS! An 80 year old woman shouldn't live in jail for the rest of her life, but give this family the serious help they need. May god bless them.

Those boys should get everything from that evil grandmother. Maybe the dead woman was bad for the husband, but was he such a coward that he had to kill her and not divorce her? Those poor young men.

Miriam Goldberg should have her walker taken away; placed in an orange jump suit; shackled and put in a cell with her son; this way they can live out their lives as a "happy couple." Only then, as her son's cellmate/partner/wife, will this monsterous old broad receive the humiliation and degradation thats she so justly deserves,

I'm sitting here wondering what to type, because I can't think of any words to describe the disgust I have with that husband and his parents. I understand that parents should support their children in their endeavors, but in no way should they support them in murdering their significant other, no matter how "insignificant" they are to them. And for the kids to watch? I hope these kids get what they need, whether it be the psychological help in the long run or the successful trial that will bring some closure to this horrific event. And send the grandmother away. Just because she is elderly doesn't mean she requires sympathy. She still has the same mentality, no doubt. To say she deserved that brutal death? Lock her up and let her contemplate her atrocious behavior behind bars for the remaining years of her meaningless life.

People like that should be publically (sp?) stoned to death. What kind of sick bastard makes their grandchildren watch as their father chops up their mother? And the grandmother was the "look-out"? Are you serious? People who do unconscionable things like that don't deserve "jail time", they deserve public humiliation and, yes, even the death penalty. They clearly have no regard for human life, and so the sanctity of their own lives should be ignored. That's just my "angry" opinion I guess, but when I read about the sick, twisted things people do, especially to their own family members and ESPECIALLY kids, it makes my blood boil.

There is simply no reason to murder your spouse.

There is always the option of leaving the mariage. I mean really, what were these people thinking?

Evil does dwell upon the earth and it knows no logic or reasson. Horrible act they did to wife and children.

Cold blooded, and premeditated murder. They got off way to easy!

I think that the father should be in jail for life for killing the mother of his children. It is very unfair that he will not be in jail for life....He just about destroyed his children's lives. Reading this was such a tragic story.

This premeditated murderer got off with a manslaughter plea! How did the D.A. allow this? You've got eyewitnesses for god's sake. Shame on Dennis Dillon! Even if the kids were afraid to testify in court, they could have given their testimony read-in in private & then read into the record.

That guy and his family are sick and twisted. those poor children that father should be doing more time actually he should have been killed in the same manner in which he took his childrens mother away. Those children should get damages awarded this is something these children will see for the rest of thier lifes and will not have a mother to love them and a father who is crazy and a set of grandparents that need to be locke up as well. I am so sorry for their loss no child should lose their mother let alone at the hands of their father and bare witness

K, so let me get this straight... the grandfather only got a year for helping his son clean up the murder? The grandmother got the kids that night that her son and husband killed her daughter in-law WHILE she (grandma) was waiting outside... Yes..the kids should get every PENNY of that estate for the HELL they put them through..

I don't get this part also:
"The children hold them partly responsible in the murder of their mother, Janet Goldberg, 42, on Dec. 8, 1996." I would have to say that I HOLD THE GRANDPARENTS ENTIRLELY RESPONSIBLE! As they have shown that they did not teach their son the difference between right and wrong EVER.

This whole story just seems too ugly to have to be true.. those poor kids.

BTW: I have to say that I am proud of those kids...University of Albany!! They are strong kids/adults. They get all of my support!

Unfortunately, I remember that day very well. My children were friends of the boys, and I knew Janet. This is a tragic story and these children, should have the option to resolve this in the most appropriate manner, to give them some kind of compensation and closure. The grandmother(no matter what her age, she was 77)needs to take responsibility for her son's actions and her husband's. No person "deserves" this kind of tragic death.
These children shouldn't have to carry the guilt of not being able to have helped their mother. I believe that if any of the adults were concerned with the welfare of the children, it wouldn't have happened. Revenge is a sick and evil element which drove the murderer (the father of these children) to kill this woman. Janet, RIP.

When are we going to start throwing away the key on people... instead of allowing these pathetic plea bargains??? Why do we even allow plea bargains on major violent offenses? They should only be allowed for misdemeanors

I am sickened by the despicable behavior of the grandparents. That 80 year old broad and her husband who planted the knife deserve to rot in jail until the very end. Yes, they are absolutely partly responsible. And I would bet that this was all driven by them not wanting to part with MONEY. The husband is a savage to be able to stab someone 60 times. That's beyond manslaughter and he should sit in jail and rot with his sicko parents. God help those surviving children to deal with this incredible tragedy.
