watch out for crooked electricians there are a team of them defrauding flood victims in oceanside. First they are charging for electrical inspections in the non flood homes,$450 which is not needed, second they are entering flooded homes pretending to be volunteers then reporting to LIPA your box is damaged if you refuse to have them fix it for a ton of money. Once they report it you are required to hire a licensed electrician.

Most new boxes just need front panel unscrewed and the breakers below water line popped in at ten bucks each. A 10 year old could do it. They want to charge a few grand for this. Hitting up flood victims is outrageous. If they want to do good go fix for free the boxes of the elderly and poor who have no flood insurance

That despicable. Hopefully crooks like this get prosecuted....quicker we make an example of these folks, the quicker it will discourage this behavior.

Just wondering how bad the damage was to Lido Beach? Was the area evacuated? I know the owner of the Lido Kosher Deli. I've been calling to no avail.

I passed by there last week and the deli and the whole row of stores were dark. I hope they recover soon and reopen. The place is one of the last old time Kosher delis and I ate there frequently. The area is devastated. I don't know if the area was evacuated manditorily(sp) but I know there are many people who lost their houses.
Again I consider myself lucky in Oceanside. Lost everything on my first floor. My daughter had major damage to both her condo and the house she is in the process of buying. Last night a house burned 2 blocks from my house. The homeowners had all his belongings in a storage container outside his flood damaged home. Now he lost the house to fire. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people affected by the storm. It's going to be a long recovery.

Yes most of Oceanside has power. I got mine back Friday night after 12 days and my daughter got hers back yesterday. Yes conditions are bad for many, but slowly getting better. As I posted above a family lost a house due to a fire last night. My house never saw a drop of water in the 25 years I lived there and I had about a foot inside! Town of Hempstead Sanitation has been coming around with front end loaders and dump trailers, picking up mountains of debris. You have to be very careful driving because they leave behind small amounts of junk in the streets as no one is sweeping up.(I have!). Nails, screws and glass everywhere. I am going to be ripping out my walls shortly. It's a shame there are so many shady contractors going around trying to fleece homeowners. I would only use a contractor that came with reccomendations.
I always thought global warming was B.S. But with glaciers melting, the water has to go somewhere. Guess it's time to start thinking otherwise, lol! I'm going to be better prepared next time with a whole house generator mounted on a 3 foot high pad.
Wishing everyone a speedy recovery!

I grew up in Oceanside and my heart goes out to all of the residents. I was wondering if anyone knows how badly damaged Irma Drive was? I grew up there between Fulton and Lawrence. Thanks so much.

I live right off that corner. Flooded and no word when power will be restored. Only lots of rumors! Mostly wet carpets/furniture. Don't see any structurally damaged homes.
Thanks for the info do you know if the power is back on yet?

I live on Lawrence. Most people have major flood damage in that area. Piles of debris, sheet rock etc. from "rip outs" line the streets. Recovery is going to be a long process but hey we're New Yorkers. Give us some time and I'm sure we'll be fine!

Betage, if you don't care about the residents of Oceanside, please don't post on this page. Did you happen to notice that Darlene posted her question on Nov1, just two days after the storm? There was no gas on LI, most of the parkways were closed to all but EM vehicles, and there were probably 1000 trees and wires down on the surface streets between Bethpage and Oceanside. There were almost no workjng traffic lights either. What prompted you to write a nasty response 17 days after the initial question? Your post was an insult to everyone who has tried to help get information to loved ones far and relatively near. What planet are you from?

Topic unrelated to storm damage--
A question for anyone who lived in Oceanside during 1962-6: Does anyone remember a family who kept a llama or alpaca in their yard, somewhere along Fulton Avenue, north of School 8? We would see it everyday when walking from Perkins Ave to the school. People don't believe me!
