Why did it take so long for the North Merrick Volunteer fire Department to arrive. The Engine did not arrive and streck hoses for almost 25 mins?

I think 25 mins to arrive with a real Fire Truck and drag hoses is a very very long time. I think this is another example why why need a full time paid fire department on Long island.

Yes their was a very slow responce from the Merrick Fire department once again. A few member pulled up in the personal vehicled with blue lights flashing but no real action was taken until the Fire Trucks arrived that took almost 30 mins. Note: a few members that came in there personal cars looked drunk.

I know the Fire houses in Merrick very well and some members. Lots of shady stuff happened over the years lots of cover up's, beer drinking partys, fights in the fire houses that were never reported Insurance scams at Empire house and accounting scandles that were kept hush hish.

They like to party and drink at these over the top fire houses, then when a real fire comes in, 1/2 are leagaly drunk and still respond, add on to it the fire trucks are always real late on the sceen.

I know member arrive in a short time, but the equipment needed liek pumper fire trucks take 20 to 30 mins to arrive somethimes with out enough personal to operate them.

We do need a paid professional fire dept I agree on Long Island.

They needed 75 fire-fighters because they are not professional and have very very slow responce time. The time it took for enough qualified members no flag guys and a pumper is was somewhere around 25 to 30 mins. The FDNY would have been there in less then 9 mins.

First off the dry cleaners that went on fire is in the north bellmore fire district not north Merrick. North Merrick has the south side of Jerusalem Ave.. North Merrick F.D was called late to the fire due to a certain North Bellmore Chief that has an unknown issue with north Merrick

This dry cleaners is in North merrick FYI. This is just more proof FDNY are heros and the Li Volleys are Zeros.

I like how the North Merrick Fire department casts blame when the fire was in North Merrick. FDNY would have extinguished this fire with 12 guys, one Engine and one Pumper in a 1/3 of the time.

The very late arrival of North merrick made this go in to multiple alarms. Typical Volunteers always late and never professional.

My friend Stephen Scymcyk works in the NMFD and he advised me there was a very slow responce by the North merrick Fire Department the North Bellmore made it the the emergency before the fire department in there own town.

So lets get this straight, it took so long for North Merrick to arrive the dry cleaners burned while a Fire Department in a town away had to respond first. WOW - this is proof Long Island needs a paid professional Fire Department get rid of the Volleys they are useless unless beer is at the event.

How about the extrealy long responce time from the North merrick Fire department? This fire was closer to uniondale why did the Uniondale Fire District not respond if North Merrick was MIA?

Typical Volunteer Fire departments Slow and always late to respond to emergencys, long as they get 25% reduction in taxes, free college tuition and their retirement from Volunteer service they barley do.

This Fire got out of control becuase North merrick fire department District was Missing in Action.

I seen the fire, I think it took about 1 hour before North merrick arrived. Looks bad again for North Merrick Fire District they are the closest and took the longest to get less then 1 mile in 1 hour. Time to audit and review Merrick Fire District big problms.

lived in merrick and was a member of Empire hose on merrick Ave. We had a ton of extra perks, we got 20% reduction in house taxes, pention plan when we retire from Volunteer service, we go to go on a FREE 1 week paid vacation everyyear,I got free college a SUNY westbury, the other fire house would cover our area when we all took 7 day FREE vacation to places like Mexico and we did the same for North merrick when they went away. We got to take home tons of equipment , like old radios, and stuff that got replaced with budget monet. Empire had a large catering hall, big kitchen with high end appliances, Bar, Pit to sleep and watch the bid screen TV with full cabel even porn. LOL The Nassau 1st and 7th pct Cops lived in Empire it was so nice, when on duty. Volley service has a ton of perks don't let these vollys fool you they do it for free thats BS - volleys get plenty in return.

So glad to see this blog. NMFD needs to be called out. It is failing on many levels. Where is the accountabilty? There is none. And then a real fire occurs and what do you get? If anyone gets to see the inside of the NM firehouse that's NOT a member, let me know. It's a community based organization supported by the residents, but it doesn't rent out their space to them. Even the North Merrick Civic Assoc. can't use it. They asked and were told no. They now hold all meetings at North Merrick Library. Another little known fact is they own shares of Aqua Water. Pull up to the back of the firehouse anytime and see for yourselves.

The Volleys are costing property damage, lives, and killing Long island tax paying citizens. Very slow responce, and now the cost of having volunteers has sky rockets out of control.Tax breaks, vacations, retirement, halls, bars, beers, booze, insurannce - get a paid dept it will be cheaper.

Yes you are correct the dry cleaners in in fact in the town of north merrick, but under the fire protection of the north bellmore fire department, so get the facts straight then bash the correct fire department. mabe FDNY may have done the job with three trucks, but mabe you should ask the north bellmore fire department there reasons. The north merrick fire department was called during that fire to stand by in the north bellmore fire department. then later called to the scene, that is why it took nmfd so long to get to the sceen of the dry cleaners fire. And for the record I guess YOU do not live in North merrick but the ladies and gental men that are the typical volunteer take pride in what they do, they do it well, and are always PROFESSIONAL (I quote )Oh yes what you typed is slander FYI

Isn't water conservation supposed to be the #1 issue of any fire department, especially NMFD being in the highest taxed, private water district on Long Island?! Have you seen the press about Aqua Water, the private water company that services Merrick/Bellmore/Wantagh? Every elected official in Town of Hempstead is lobbying for a takeover of Aqua Water. We pay the highest water bills on Long Island. Period.

Anyone paying taxes should be able to use it. I pay my water bills and that of the fire department. And I don't get a break on my property taxes either. And we all know how expensive our property taxes are on Long Island, right?

go to the library and look up the fire lines, you will see that side of Jerusalem is indeed Bellmores territory. sure, it would be nice if Uniondale had that side of the road but we didn't make the lines. We got called for stand by and waited to be called for aid. Funny though, everyone is comparing vollies to FDNY saying how they'd have better response. . . quite a few of NMFD members work FDNY for a living.

Your nuts, this was North Merrick, typical Volunteer push the blame you fee loading white skells, with all the excess spending and over the top fire houses, they still have a slow responce time, and are known to be wanna-be FDNY and a bunch of stumbling drunks. Merrick and North Merrick and the worst or the worst when it comes to fire fighting skills.
