Peck let her off too easy. She should have an appointment with "Ol Sparky" up at Attica.

babies are the most important , most precious things on earth. any lowlife who would EVEr hurt their child is dispicable and she should be sentenced 25 to life!

I agree, why is a child's life NOT MORE IMPORTANT than an adults? Rape and sexually abuse a kid, and do about 7 years. Kill a newborn, do less than 10?
In sexual abuse, the child ceases to be the child it was before the abuse, so essentially, the child dies. In the death of a newborn, logic dictates that taking an innocent, helpless life should result in you giving up your life.
1 in 100 Americans are in jail, yet we let these demons walk in our midst...only after 7 years with their own gym set, group of like minded individuals and an opportunity to perfect their trade.
W T F is wrong with NYS?
We have no room for these baby/child killers because we're too busy locking up pot smokers who've done nothing to hurt anyone. NYS really needs to get their priorities in order !!!

This animal killed a human being. Why is she only getting a max of 10 yrs. She should get life and be put with the worst convicts in the prison to suffer the way that poor baby did. Not fair-she killed someone. The justic system stinks.

the wrong choices my butt...what the hell is wrong w/ that judge. 3 1/3 to 10 years is all the sick idiot gets? someone needs to put her in a large box and toss her in a trash bin. I am disgusted at the stupidity of the mother and the judge.

I asked myself the same question. She will get what she deserves once she gets upstate. They don't treat baby killers to kindly at Bedford Hills.
I sure hope they do give her what she deserves for killing an innocent baby. Why couldn't she just give it up for adoption. She's 35 years old and should know better! She claims to have been confused. Sounds more to me that she knew exactly what she was doing!

She was acquitted of murder and found guilty of manslaughter. Manslaughter comes with a lesser sentence. That is how the law is written and a max of 10 years is the sentence determined fair for manslaughter. Its got nothing to do with the value of a baby vs. the value of an adult.

"He said she has a sister who lives in Nassau, who did not attend. Most of her family remains on her native island of St. Vincent."

Can this pe-oh-ess be deported when her sentence is finished? We have enough native-born [email protected]@ges that kill their own get without importing any. A nice idea, but I'm not optomistic.

According to the article a 35 year old woman gets pregnant out of wedlock and is embarrassed by it. She has the baby, panics, and dumps it. Her spiritual guide of 20 years from the church of God is shocked.
Could it be that religious stigma caused her embarrassment? Could it be that her faith based morality failed her in her confusion? Could it be that some responsibility lies with her spiritual guides who led her no where?
Can it be that they are just stupid people with low IQs?

The woman was not convicted beyond a reasonable doubt of Murder. She was convicted of (Negligent) Manslaughter 2*.
If you would have attended the trial, you would have understood that the woman was experiencing a severe case of Post Partum Depression. She is estranged from her family, and was deeply guilty about having the child. In her anguish she failed to care appropriately for the child.
The Court's sentence was appropriate for the crime. The conviction may not even stand as the evidence was very weak.
The judge (Peck) prosecuted Colin Fergeson. He has proven his chops. He is one of the hardest sentencing judges in the state. He is also very aware that cases need to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt by evidence that closes off any other reasonable possibility of innocence, on every element.
All of you who based on this article think they know what happened and are calling for harsh treatment are sadly willing to relinquish the rights given to us by God to worship at the alter of vengence.
Judge Peck was neither harsh nor merciful, he was however fair.

This woman deprived this poor, innocent child of ever having a life, and the mother just gets a slap on the wrist?!? Only up to 10 years in prison? Give me a break! Lock her up and throw away the key. What is this world coming to?
if she was capable of this, what kind of life would he have had?

the fire been going on even before this..have you read the blogs in the westbury tragedy...seriously...you hear more sympathy for this child in here than you do in the westbury case..dont get me wrong..its 2 different cases..but still..its both involved with children..those children are dead..and you dont have so many people commenting on this because she's from hicksville and the other is from westbury...believe me..i wasnt trying to be malicious about this..but its true..dont believe me..check those blogs and you tell me what you think..wish we can get away from the black and white issue...but seems to me other people rather not happen..its time we stand together as one..youre stronger when we stand together...divided...were weak as people..

the emphasis should be put on how we as a people can help situations like the one in westbury..this one..and the recent one with the baby left in a cab( which we all know something isnt right with that story) and not worrying if someone was on welfare..was she on drugs..ect..ect...exception of the child left in a cab..those others are dead because of the mothers and those people that knew and neglected that something was wrong..instead they find other things to talk about to help the situation without ignorance..and maybe things can be resolved so stupid things like this wont happen again..

Other people try so hard and so long to become pregnant, while other animals get pregnant and throw their babies away. It's pathetic. Use the pill or condoms before you get pregnant!!!
