I don't know just how many children from the North Shore School District (Sea Cliff and Glen Head) are going to parochial schools. But I figure that the percentage is minimal because our public schools have such a good reputation for educating their students. If the feeling is general around other districts on Long Island, that is why parochial schools have to be closed.

Maybe the problem is a combination of the following:
1)Paying $4000. per year in tuition in addition to our existing obscene school tax is no longer an option.
2)Catholic schools offer a sub standard education.
3)The sex abuse scandal that will not stay burried under the rug.
4)The fact that many parents opted to send their children to Catholic school because it used to ensure an all white enviornment.
5)If you have paid $48,000. in tuition from grades 1-12 there is most likely no money left for college.

Not sick, not demented. You are just shocked that someone told the truth about religion equaling big bucks (tax free ofcourse). And what good, clueless, miracle believing christian wouldn't offer up their kid to a priest if it made them a shoe-in for the pearly gates? Grow up.

You, Rider, sound like some kind of atheist with your objection to religion of any kind. And you, Lolly, appear to support this position with an all-out attack on parochial schools. For your penance, say three Our Father's and three Hail Mary's.

The reason enrollment is going down is because there are very few nuns or priests teaching in the schools. The idea was to get a Catholic and academic education that you don' get with most of the lay teachers. Check out the graduation rates in the 50's and 60's with today. Not more than half are graduating in four years. That is why people who can afford Catholic schools do not go to public schools.

The religion of Mohammeds Islam's prophet is coming to remove Jesus Christ out of the Christian religion.
And replace Jesus with the teaching of their prophet Mohammeds teaching.
This is going to happen if Chritians don't wake up and stop their bickerying among them self.
Do Christians truly believe in Jesus Christ as God?
Or will Christians fold when the religion of Islam comes marching in America?
They are here alrady, ready to take over in America.
While Christians are still bickerying over Catholic and Protestant issue, Islam will settle it for you.
Instead of saying GOd, you will be saying Allah.

The racist and bigoted statement you made against Jemima is unacceptable to lots of people, not just myself, believe me. I'm surprised nobody else has replied to your outrageous comment yet.
But they will, because you show your true colors as an arshole.
I don't usually don't say that to a lady, but you don't fill that bill anyway, so I feel okay.

Unfortunately, we have to read what you say on this thread. We watch how thoroughly gross you can be. We relish putting you in your proverbial place. So keep up your preposterous ranting, because it is interesting to see how disgusted you can make us feel.

Preposterous ranting? Three sentences is preposterous ranting? Take a look at how long you were up on your soapbox--way longer than three sentences. True colors yes. With the emphasis on the word TRUE. Hope you had fun in church today and didn't forget to drop your cash envelope into the basket or else you won't be able to get into heaven! LOL

You are a piece of disgusting work, Lolly. Ranting can be done in one sentence let alone three, sweetheart. I use my soapbox with discretion and hope. YOu show your true colors, and that's not a compliment, dear. Then you reveal your sordid feelings about religion and church with your reference to the cash offerings that people VOLUNTARILY make to be sure that their house of worship is taken care of. What's wrong with that, darling?

Dear Lovey Dove, religion=$, or did you not read about the catholic church ignoring their pedophile priests for hundred of years? Instead of protecting their flock of youngsters from these predators, they merely transferred them to other towns to prey on other christian children. Why? Why do YOU think?...it's all about the money, Honey.

How stupid are you? If these 200 kids now go to public school, the cost of educating these kids in the public school system (about $15,000 per year) not increases your local school budget by $3 million annually.

In terms of bus service and books, these parents pay school taxes and have a legal right to them, and it is a small amount compared to what it will cost you for each kid transferring to public school. You will now need more teachers, and likely more classroom space, which is a capital expenditure over and above the 15,000 per year to educate a child.

Public schools still pay for Catholic school, books, bus service and allot of other stuff that comes from public schools budgets and local Tax $

Another ill informed idiot. There are very few clergy teaching in public grammar schools and of the few remaining, all are nuns. Are you aware that the problem is worse is Orthodox Jewish communities, that by Jewish law, any person must bring the allegation to a rabbi, who in turn decides wether to go to authorities or not.

There is many more cases of sexual abuse by public school teachers against students nationwide than clergy against students.

Additionally, parochial schools are not supported financially by the diocese. Any settlements in sexual abuse cases are handled at the diocesan level and don't affect pariochial school financially.

Your argument doesn't explain why Catholic high schools on Long Island have enrollments at all time highs.
lolly wrote:
Don't hear anyone discussing why they're closing.
How about b/c the Catholic Church had to pay out millions of $ to the CHILD abuse VICTIMS of priests. The church did NOTHING to protect these kids. Still don't know why parents would let these 'men of god' near their kids. Guess priests think that since god forgives all sins that anything goes!

Sexual abuse of children by anyone is a horrible crime, but are you aware that the problem is even wrose in Jewish Communities, where the whole community keeps silent. From the NYPOST December 11, 2011

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/brooklyn/o...

Are you aware there in sheer numbers, there are far more cases of sex abuse cases occurring in public schools than in the Catholic Church:

Take you anti Catholic rants somewhere else.
