I recently logged onto the sex offender registry for Catawba County checking to make sure none of them are living in my neighborhood. I just randomly picked some names and "clicked on them" to read their information and was horrified because many offenders have registered addresses that law enforcement officers have never verified. There are offenders on the registry that reported their addresses more than three years ago and no one has ever checked it out. I'm not positive but I believe that this is the responsibility of the Sheriff's Department. I find it hard to believe that our law enforcement officer's need three years to check out an address. This really infuriates me. If an offender takes the time to register their address then it should be a top priority to have it verified - we deserve better than this. I for one want to protect the children in this county but obviously it isn't that important to our local Sheriff's Department.

You are so right. There are also some who have not been charged yet lurking around as well.
Too bad we all don't have some psychic ability to predict who will be one and who will not.
