Anyone think $5.50 is too expensive for a plate lunch? When you add in a drink, tax, & tip that's rather pricey for Hickman. I would suggest they include the drink if they want to maintain business. The Smokehouse in Fulton does along with Grogan's & Ruby Faye's in Clinton.
Memaw's has Parker's & will soon be the only plate lunch in town again. |

Have you been to any of the other places listed? You get your moneys worth there too + drink included!
McDonald's shouldn't factor into Memaw's pricing but you're right...Memaw's blows McDonald's out of the water when compared for what you get vs what you pay. It does however cost around $8 for Memaw's for lunch. |

$5.50 for lunch. That doesn't seem that bad. Expecially for a plate lunch. Heck, I went to Cracker barrel a couple days ago for Breakfast and the Country Morning Breakfast is $4.59 and I substituted harsh brown casserole for the grits adding another dollar then add on the drink for about $1.50 and look what it is.
But if you want an unhealthy lunch - McDonalds and Wendy's uses processed meat for their burgers and it will cost you about $5.00 at least for it.(I really don't eat fast food unless absolutely have to so I don't know what the cost really is). I love to come to Hickman and eat breakfast out. Good ole biscuits and gravy with eats and bacon. Yum Yum |

I look at like this if you think it's to high then don't eat there ,go to parkers or Little general or get a pack of bolona and bread an eat it / myself i like the good food and the people who run it you people act like every thing should just be given to you or something

Could someone please tell me where MeMaws is??? I keep thinking that it is the old Moonglow but really don't know.
I have got to plan some meals at all these restaurants when I come to Hickman next summer. Memaws, Hubs (I eat there everytime), Parkers, Cayce Cafe, any others that I am missing? Because when I read all these posts about them - it really makes me just want to try them out. |

Debe Udallia, NE was the origination of Topix so if you don't register that's what comes up. Besides, you're comparing Cracker Barrel to a local business. Anyone with half-assed sense knows a national chain is more expensive than a local mom-n-pop!
All hamburger is processed you nit... |

Stevie, before I registered I never came up with that city under my name. But then again - it came up with towns close around me.
As far as mom and pop versus chain, ours are about equal here. We do have a couple of mom and pops we go to and really, no difference. Prices all about the same. I can say that I ate in South Fulton on one of my trips home this summer. It was at a restaurant called Poppy's or Poppa or something like that.(it was closed down when I went back Labor Day weekend) Anyway, it was so cheap and very good. Guess that is why it didn't make it. Last - not every hamburger is made with 100% beef. I know McDonalds says theirs is but hard to look at it and say that is true. Some use fillers and pork, among other things, but not just beef. While others make sure that plenty of fat is mixed into the beef so it can truly be a 1/4 pounder or 1/2 pound burger. Even at the grocery you can buy 70%, 80% ground beef or you can go over and buy real angus burgers. Taste alot different. So when I think of "most" fast food hamburgers, it sure isn't close to real angus beef hamburger meat. They might all be processed but what is processed in it matters to me. NO FILLERS OR TONS OF FAT PLEASE. |
