In early 2003, newly elected state Auditor Pat Anderson hired him as her deputy, a job that he held until she was defeated in 2006. While working as deputy auditor, he was elected state GOP secretary-treasurer.

And while Sutton was GOP Secretary-Treasurer, the bombshell known as The Tostenson Memo was prepared by the then-Finance Director Dwight Tostenson, in which he noted apparent illegal activities by the party.

"The misappropriation of Employees SRA (Retirement Accounts) money, which was withheld from our paychecks and not deposited into our account, I believe, was a violation of Federal Law. As reported on our payables at the state executive meetings last summer there was as much as $12,000 not deposited at any one time. This represented months of paycheck withholdings by the Party which had not been deposited within the 30-day legally required time limit."

And there's more in that memo; a simply google of Dwight Tostenson finds The Tostenson Memo at the top of the first page.

One would think a former State Deputy Auditor, such as Tony Sutton, would be able to run a clean ship. But no, during Sutton's tenure as Party Secretary-Treasurer, serious allegations of wrongdoing -- not from the DFL, but from GOP party employees -- were whitewashed. Former Party Chair Ron Carey never explained the documented problems that happened under Sutton's "stewardship" - and it isn't realistic to expect Sutton to explain his stewardship, either.

Democrats should be quaking in their boots? LOL!!! What a joke. Quaking over a party of cowards who won't stand up for anything? The Republican candidate for Mayor of St. Paul won't even admit to being a Republican.

Tell me once again how this is Public Service and not Career Politics. I think my mother has the right idea. Never vote for some one that is all ready in office.

Joe Repya is right, the party has been turned over to a group of attack dogs. This will further diminish the chances to regain a foothold for the republican party.
Sutton and Brodkorb are far to radical, they have lowered the political converation and debate to the gutter, the people of Minnesota want a republican party that can be fiscally responable and has a sense of dignity, decency and respect. That will not happen with these two.
Count me as another former Republican moving to Independent.

When a Republican party officer (deputy chair 4thCD) calls ALL VETERANS COMMUNISTS, in the Pioneer Press and states he is one of the "new anti war republicans" and Tony Sutton won't fire him but rather makes him chair of the constitution and by-laws committee, the republican party has serious problems. A true testimony of Tony Suttons leadership. When most of the top republican party gubernatorial candidates along with Michelle Bachmanns campaign, ask Tony to get rid of this guy and he says no, the republicans are doomed. I join Joe Repya and many others in leaving this party of self destruction. See you at the Veterans Rally outside the Republican Party Convention on 3 Oct from 7am till noon outside the rivercenter.

I'm confused on how a total insider is going to do something that will stop the slide? It seems like Sutton has done nothing but turn up the rhetoric but, internally ignore the hypocrisy. That talking the talk without walking the walk is part of the slow decline.

Eva Ng knows that by admitting that she is a republican is deadly in Saint Paul. However, its usually so because the DFL will put its resources and grassroots organization behind their candidates. Are the republicans saying that their state party cannot compete with the city party of DFLers? Weak.

The GOP under Sutton has already started squeezing people out of the party. Just ask Anoka County Republican Andy Apilowski. He's a Michelle Bachmann conservative and is being bounced out by the Ron Paul conspirators. Soon, Bachmann may find her nomination challenged by some Ron Paul follower who wants to disband the military (though Bachman squeezed out a longtime Republican when she ran for the Senate).

This is all irrelevant inside baseball. I don't know any of the people in this story ... never heard of them actually ... don't even belong to the republican party, yet I haven't voted for anyone but republicans since 1980.

People shouldn't form their political alliances based on individuals, but on principles.

Sorry Bob, principles don't make policy. Individuals do.

And Sutton relishes the chance to stuff his fat face with food, as evidenced by his morbid obesity.

Stop stuffing those jelly donuts down your fat face you impotent idiot. Just because you have no friends you sit in front of your little computer in your low life trailer park with your troll like face waiting expectantly for a reply. There ya go Mr. Obesity. Let's see what your idiot Obozo tells you to do next, you have no thoughts of your own.
