Behind the deal to create the world's largest airline is a former Texas criminal prosecutor who may never have worked for an airline had his neighbor across the street not been in the business.

Richard Anderson is a very bad guy. Pardon my lack of eloquence, however, he has a history of dishonesty in dealing with the State of Minnesota and down-right disdain for the employees that he has led and negeotiated with.

I, as a conservative, believe in preventing government from intruding on business and it's practices. However, I believe that CEO's like Anderson are a cancer and serve only their individual selves. This is a true dichotomy for me, but at what point do we draw a line. People will be hurt by lost jobs, the State of Minnesota will be adversely impacted if a Hub is lost and Richard Anderson will skate away with money falling out of his pockets. This is truly corupt and wrong.

So, what are we to do. I first believe that our Governor must bring pressure to bear on Northwest and indirectly Delta. He must, to the fullest extent, use every piece of ammunition in his "gun belt" to ensure little to no job contraction and assure "Hub Status" for MSP Airport. Second, the Pilots at NW, who have been made previous concessions to Richard Anderson and the Management Team at NW have a tough decision to make, my hope is that they will agree, though if they do not I will not blame them, to further concessions. Last, I hope that NW/Delta will develop a conscience and not wreck havoc in the lives of hard working people.

If Governor Pawlenty tries to get too tough on Deltwest, the airline will pay off the bonding money it owes MAC and consequently be under no obligation to the State of Minnesota. Look at your history, folks. Nothing Northwest has put into writing has been worth the paper it's printed on...everything's negotiable. I had to smile when T-Paw said he'll drive a hard bargain, in the best interests of Minnesota. Even though he's a fellow attorney, the Goverernor has very little leverage. 245-Million? Chump change for the monster that will be Delta.

Northwest owes the IRS $250 million in back taxes but the Feds are collecting??? What gives? If they were a small business they would be shut down by the Feds! I guess the Feds are being generous like not enforcing inspection standards!!

Am I the only person who finds the fact that Richard Anderson, the former CEO of Northwest Airlines and current CEO of Delta isn't being investigated for some type of corporate misconduct?

This entire merger just has an odor that suggests illegal activity. And if the FAA and Congress just let it slide, I say lock em all up.

First of all I believe the correct name is Nodeltast not Deltwest(Just kidding). NWA has a long history, much longer than the last decade or two and its too bad those 60 years or so get dragged down with the crap that's been passing for NWA the last 20 years. There was a time when paper signed by NWA meant quite a bit but today you're right. It's become a truly corrupt corporation. You're also right about the chump change the politicians are puffing themselves up about. Hell, the money the employees gave up for one year in Chapter 11 will cover that and lots left over. Anderson & Co must have got a good laugh out of that. To me it's sad to flush the good (you have to be over 40 and have a good memory) with the bad. There are still a lot of honest hard working people at NWA and it'll be another sad day brought to you by the likes of Anderson, Steenland, Dasburg, Chechi, Wilson and Rothmeyer. Significant operations, No front line employee layoffs, Hub status, Merger of addition, synergy, guaranteed stock redemption, Better by the minute, 1+1=3, We love to fly and it shows, People Pride and Performance, Debt is our friend, all lies don't believe a word of it. However "The World is Going Our Way" might have some truth to it and that aint a good thing.

Mr. Anderson is a man wilth a huge brain, he has the foresight to gain more profit for the company he leads. And, if that leads us to a couple of airline choices in the states, so be it. We will be able to use our frequent flyer miles more easily. Sure, prices will go up for tickets but that is to be expected with higher fuel prices. Mr. Anderson is worth his weight in gold.

Even Levine is skeptical. Northwest's former executive vice president of marketing and international, Levine forged the airline's pioneering alliances with Continental and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He prefers alliances to complicated, risky mergers. "I think there are economies and advantages in mergers that are riskier to get," Levine said. "The low-hanging fruit comes from alliances. How far up the tree are you willing to climb?"

It ain't over till it's over.

Keep on fighting it , Oberstar. Hey Norm Coleman, want to get elected ??? Fight this thing! Amy K - you can step into a leadership role and become a trial tested real Senator who truly advocates for her constituents.

The thing is bad on three fronts for Minesotans:
Employees (less)
Competition (less)
Reliable airline service (mergers create chaos).

Let's go now!!!

If Levine is his pal, watch out. Levine was a rude boor who despised all NWA workers below the level of Exec VP.
Anderson had "his guys" in NWA and the ones he had as chief pilot and running flight operations and training had an agenda that hurt the fmr Republic people at every opportunity, and were feared (and hated) by the rank and file.
This thing is strictly business and may very well be the key to survival for the two companies. The lineage of Checci, Wilson, Dasburg, and Steenland is disgraceful, and there is a Pulitzer there for any that can stifle their nausea and wade through the sewage. NWA had-and has-absolutely first rate employees. It has been "MANAGED"-that horrible word, again -NOT LED-into this sad state.

This really is a shame, but perhaps it's a symptom of an even bigger problem. Checked the price of Jet fuel lately? It's gone up just like the prices of Gasoline and Diesel. If you want to go after some real criminals, find the ones who are jacking up the price of crude oil. They make Anderson look like a joke.
