The upcoming November elections feature the presidential race between Obama and Romney. However, local elections are just as important, if not more so. To inform the citizens of Towns County about the candidates for the positions of Sheriff, Commissioner, Tax Commissioner, and Coroner, The Towns County Homeowners scheduled a debate on October 9 for the eight candidates contesting these offices. Incredulously, the four Democrats, Osborne, Kendall, Rogers & Mathis have just informed the Homeowners group that they WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE DEBATE. What do you suppose they have to hide?

Osborne, incompetent buffoon, Kendall, Corrupt and has mental issues which would be exposed, Rodgers (see Osborne) Mathis (See Osborne)
These people all know if they lay low they have a chance to win. If they expose themselves they will get beat. It is the local Papers job to call them out. Good luck with that happening.

This news is UNBELIEVABLE ! What are they hiding ? No debate no vote. I will vote straight Republican if they do not debate.

Please pass along any information you may have regarding this. I plan to start a e-mail campaign among family, friends and church members condemning this cowardly move by the local democrats. We are entitled to the debates to help us decide how to vote. If they do not debate I will personally push for everyone to vote for the local Republicans.

Republicans/Democrates who gives a damn. The only thing you are "entitled" to is one vote, hopefully for the most qualified candidate. You don't get that by voting along party lines. Political debates at any level are just entertainment, what the candidates say means nothing, they are just fishing for votes. I truly beleive this whole thing is Republcians trying to stir up extra votes. You want to see a show, go to the movies.

I have contacted 42 people already who are in complete agreement with me on this. If you think it ends here you are wrong. Your post makes no sense at all.

If "political dabates at any level are just entertainment", how do we at the local level determine who is, as you say, "the most qualified"?

Secondly, it's the Democrats who refuse to debate. I can't imagine they did that to try to stir up Republican votes. Your statement made no sense at all.

If this is true it is a complete disgrace and a slap in the face of all Towns County residents.

Have any of you ever watched a political debate, then compared what they said and promised a few years later. Its theater, just like todayís political ads, using that as the reason not to vote for someone is playing politics, and thatís the game that is ruining our country.

A novel idea would be to vote for someone based on what they have done in life, business and politics, not what they promise to do.

I am not at all surprised that 42 or 4,200 people agree with you. In todayís climate the conservative base of the Republican Party lives in nothing they do surprises me. And I am not a Democrat by any stretch of your imagination, old school Republican turned Independent.

I think the sole question here is why did they all refuse? Even if you think it's just public entertainment, it doesn't look good when you refuse to speak/debate publicly with your opponent. If you do separate interviews, etc then you can come up with the answers over time that you want to respond with. In a debate you have to answer then and there. It gives the voters a more honest picture of the person, where they stand on issues and their long term goals. So, again, why did all, not just one, Democrat decline the debate. Inquiring voter's minds want to know.

I know! What are they thinking? Mob mentality is so much better! You get to throw all rational thinking right out the window! Yee haw! Let's go!

To be honest, I have later found out that one Democrat is willing to debate...Mathis for Coroner. The remaining three, if they don't have something to hide, must just be afraid of their opponents.

Those who post are the Minority, Those who read are not. The numbers that came out at the two hearings were off the chart. Hundreds of hits everyday. Thousands on some days.

I'm sorry. Coroners debating is just funny to me. What are they gonna debate? Which method they'll use to pronounce death?

Mathis is a good coroner. I do not think he is linked to BK...What reason would we change coroners?

Maybe a honest person just refuses to try and compete with a person who bends the truth. Or questions that favor the opposition, or do they get to approve the questions like the big boys do. Maybe they just don't want to attented an ambush. Or maybe they just know that folks like you bark a lot but can't bite.

If we bark but don't bite what do they have to fear? I'm leaning toward the truth coming out or their incompetence being shown.
