My husband and I went last Friday. We heard the ads on the radio. It was a very nice place but the prices are outrageous. The DJ was OK for hiawassee but would never make it in a large market. Someone needs to tell the owners that the VIP room is for very important people not VERY INTOXICATED PEOPLE how in the world some of the people there got home is beyond me. We had two drinks over an hour and a half and drove home. I watched one lady in the VIP room have no less than six in the same time. I hope our Sheriff makes a point to let everyone know Drunk driving is not tolerated here or anywhere. There were several who should have been cut off long before we got there who were still pouring them down when we left. There were other who staggered out to their cars and drove off. If they want to run a class place they need to find a way to keep the drunks from driving themselves home. Either cut them off or drive them home. Someone is going to get killed or kill someone trying to drive home from there.
Well said. I called the State police last Saturday night. I almost hit a car that pulled out in front of me and two other cars then weaved their way to bell creek.

The bar owner lives off Bell Creek. There have been many nights I observed her and her current boyfriend or husband climb into their trucks or sport car and drive home after many drinks at the Yacht Club or Hiawassee Grill. VIP really does stand for Very Intoxicated People when it comes to them. I agree our Sheriff needs to send a message of zero tolerance to the owners and patrons.

<quoted text>The resort was not a dump. It has always been a beautiful place built by a man of vision. It has had several owners over the years. Mr and Mrs. Pelhem were welcome members of our community when they owned it. Mr. Pelhems untimely death is the only reason Scotty Fain got his hands on it. Yes Mr. Fain and his Florida partners did spend an awful lot of funny money on the place. But, it never made money and as a matter of fact bleed some of the partners into Bankruptcy.
We know the current owner of the Boat Yard / Yacht Club. He has a lease on the place because Scotty and his big shot partners didn't know how to run it and allowed it to become an embarrassment to our community. Same story with his five million dollar stone palace at the golf course that has been closed for two years.
The man who currently runs it brought it back to a nice place to go for dinner and some fun. The late Mr. Pelhems wife then returned with her new husband and tried to run off the operators of both restaurants at the resort. Both had built good businesses during hard times. She opened a bar with Jazz music in the hotel then opened another bar in the old fly fishing shop. She also opened a pizza place in the movie house to compete with the pizza place in Fun World. Why she tries to put her own tenants out of business is beyond all of our understanding. She has been described by employees and other posters as a tyrant. I believe the old saying Fools and money soon part sums her up better. Her former Husband was a good honest man. He would not be happy to see how she has treated people since his death.
How do you know Richard was "a good honest man"? Where do you think she learned it? Better talk to some folks from their life before coming here. Not so good, not so honest from what I've been told. In fact, someone told me some folks from their previous life came here to make sure he was dead. Just sayin'

If you don' DRINK and DRIVE, you should not have anything to worry about...doesn't matter where the deputy sheriffs are sitting and watching. I would prefer them to sit and watch. I don't want to be killed by a drunk driver like my little brother was.

My condolences to you and your family. I do agree with you about drunk drivers. However, it is not illegal to have a drink and drive as long as you are not impaired. The biggest problem with drinking and driving is that some folks don't know their limit and they over do it.

You know we could go so far as to say anyone that is on prescription medication should not drive. We can argue all day (and I'm not trying to argue, just making a point) about drinking and driving.

The one exception is if you are going to drive a government vehicle, one should not be allowed to have even one drink. The reason is liability. Everyone thinks that government has deep pockets, and even the smallest of incidents can cost the taxpayers a large sum of money. There should be a universal policy of zero tolerance on drinking and driving a government vehicle.

There is no reason our County government does not have a "drug free workplace" except that the reason we don't have a drug free workplace is due to one person, the Commissioner. He is the BOSS. How dare anyone make a suggestion of a drug free workplace and a zero tolerance on drinking and driving government vehicles.

Oh I forgot, the King didn't think of it, so that makes it a bad idea!

Ask yourself why put two bars sidebyside? The Resort was a dump befor Scott took it over and redone it.The place was doing good and making money, until Dana came back and sen how good it was doing and thought she would take it back and rack in the dough. But why when a place is making money why come in and start changing things. It will soon be a dump again that is in the hole because you have to have respect for the people that work for you because if you don't you have no one to do your dirty work, and I dont think her slect few from Fun World can do it all. Nobody likes to work for her from what I hear.If there was work elese where in this town she wouldn't have enough people to work to run the place.
As I recall, The Yacht Club was doing fantastic when it was The Fieldstone!! After Richard passed away and Dana sold it to Scotty and the idiots that he had help him(James Rowe) I am pretty sure that James ruined the Yacht Club & ran it into the ground and then they leased us out to that D*CKHEAD Nick Fisk, he fired everybody that was there to help the place out and see what happened to it then, it almost shut down thanks to him!!
Now thanks to Rob it is a GREAT place to go again & it is actually making money like it was 4 years ago!! I happen to know quite a few peoplw that would still work for Dana, she was a great boss to me and everybody else that worked for her!!

Not everybody. I worked for her. She lied about more things than she told the truth about. If you worked there you know what I'm talking about. The only thing she could manage was to get drunk and high every day. Remember her telling us she would never sell the place at the Christmas party? The truth was she had already sold it to Scotty and his money men. What she did in the bar the weeks after Mr. Pelhem died make me sick just to think about it.
