It has come to my attention here the past few weeks my nephew, a highschool student at towns county, has been talking it up about this upcoming football season. He has told me numerous times he is interested in playing varsity football this season. He has said they supposedly have the "Best offensive line" towns county has ever had with all returning starters from this past season with two upcoming sophmores, two upcoming juniors, and two seniors. I was just wondering if anybody else has heard of this or if its just a rumor. coments? and im also questioning if its a good idea for him to play or not. help anybody?

Read the Towns Football thread below.
As long as you don't care about head injury and long term health problems let your kid play. If you do care, then find another sport. Simple as that.

TC football good???
Are you on drugs??

They could bring the Green Bay Packers down here and dress them in TC uniforms and would go 0-10!!

Basketball ain't much better. Baseball is pitiful...

I won't even get into academics!! I can't get numbers low enough on my computer to discuss it!!

Want a good education for your children. You got two choices, Union County or Clay County, NC.

Things will not get better until there is a new Principal. The current one is job scared so he sides with the local powers rather than do the right thing. He knows he would never be hired in a real school system that demands quality. The new superintendent came from a school system with some of the lowest academic test scores in the State of Georgia, which has some of the lowest in the Nation. She is content to continue status quo. She will lower the bar rather than clean house.
The school is to small for a football team. They play freshman to have enough players. That gets kids seriously hurt every year. The coach is stuck here now. Nobody will hire a loser and he can't win unless he brings in talent like when he was hired. Basketball is coached by a homer who never won anything and never will. But he was born here so he is qualified. He screams and hollers like a child at the games. The kids have no respect for him. But, screaming, crawling around beating the floor is the norm at TC for basketball. Integrity, professionalism and leadership by coaches is not expected or required. Baseball is coached by a young man who should be coaching at the middle school level a few more years. He lacks the experience to build a program. He inherited a mess and will fail because of lack of support from the AD and administration. He was set up to fail.
The two AD's and the other varsity coaches looked the other way last year when a bunch of Senior homers played the whole year stoned. The only kid in the class before that to sign a college scholarship failed a drug test and never played a down in college. It is and has been a problem that the coaching staff and administration knew existed, but looked the other way so they had enough kids to play. The in coming Freshman class have more athletes than the other three classes in high school combined. Unfortunately many of them will quit or stop playing because of a lack of leadership and poor coaching. The AD's do a very poor job of scheduling which causes academic issues. They don't know or don't care. That causes kids to drop out of sports. Athletic programs take years to build. They require commitment from the administration and coaches. They require effort. At Towns County it's all about keeping it local. That is why Towns County will continue to lose until there is a change at the top.
Towns County needs to call a meeting of all parents and coaches in an open forum and explain that if they don't get enough participants they will begin to shut programs down. If they don't offer a program the kids can go play for another team if they wish to play that sport.

Well stated. This thread was passed around the school today. Maybe if enough people start looking at the problem it will get fixed.

The truth is the football coach is one of the Athletic Directors and does the scheduling. If he spent as much time finding schools with losing records for all the boys teams as he does for his football team to play, every team would win a few. He knows some of the best athletes in the State play in the Region 8 A league. Nine of the schools are private and recruit players like colleges do. They pay their tuition. If he played in the region he would not have won a game yet.
The other truth is, there are to many Spring sports offered for a small school. Eliminate Baseball, tennis golf or Soccer and they will have enough players to field a decent team at something. This points to a lack of planning and common sense on the part of the administration.

Blah, blah, blah.... My son sucks at football. I sucked at football. It runs in the family. So, now I will get on Topix and post over and over and answer myself many times about how bad Towns County's team is. I will also point out over and over how dangerous the sport can be. I will talk about how the players will never be anything in life, other than roofers or lawn cutters. All this, while I sit at home living off Welfare and Food Stamps while the football players families are working and paying taxes for me to live off of. I will continue to smoke and over eat so that maybe I can have a heart attack and then have all my medical bills paid for by the people whose kids I am talking so bad about.

Isn't this the way this whole thread should read?:-)

Or maybe it should read " I don't care if kids get hurt. I want football here. I don't care if we don't have a large enough school to have a football team, I need a job and can't teach. "
This thread like others tell the truth about TCHS and people hate that. Face the music.

Those tough kids grow up to be white trash like their parents, live in trailer parks and work for the smart kids. When you finish mowing my yard will you clean my gutters.

Cute! But-----
I have a college degree and make a decent living. The only yard I work in is my own, the one outside of my HOUSE. And my kids will never be mowing your lawn or cleaning your gutters.
They are athletic AND smart.

Pathetic. We are s small high school, with around 400 students. We play schools with up to 1000 students or these private schools that pay coaches more than anybody in the county. Do you expect towns county to beat these schools when they have 50 or 60 different players and we have the same 11 kids out there on the field the whole game? Until you are in our shoes, you have no room to talk
